10 Ways To Customize Your Golf Cart
Golf cart customization is fun, especially since you can do a lot of it yourself. My golf cart has been my preferred way to get around for years. I won’t say I have all the latest and greatest upgrades but even small tweaks have made a big difference. If you own a golf cart and want to start making it the perfect ride for you, here are 10 ways to customize it.
Golf Cart Underglow Light Kit

Sometimes, we see a golf cart in our neighborhood and my kids say, “That’s a party cart.” A “party cart” essentially means a golf cart with an underglow light kit. Are they wrong?
The Universal Fit Golf Cart LED Light Kit has 256 lighting modes and a music sync feature. It is designed to work with a 12V-65V battery input and fits a wide range of golf carts including E-Z-GO, Club Car and Yamaha. It comes with a wireless remote.
Red Amber LED Stop/Turn/Signals Brake Light

The Upgraded Golf Cart Tailgate Light Strip adds extra visibility and style to your cart with bright running lights, sequential turn signals and brake lighting. Designed for easy installation with a clear wiring setup and IP67 waterproof rating, it’s a great way to enhance safety and make your golf cart stand out.
Universal Golf Cart Trailer Hitch

The Golf Cart Trailer Hitch with a two-inch receiver makes it easy to tow small trailers, haul gear or attach accessories to your cart. Whether moving yard equipment, bringing extra supplies to the course or adding a cargo carrier, the trailer hitch is a worthwhile customization. It’s designed to fit most Club Car, E-Z-GO and Yamaha models and installs easily so you can put your cart to work when needed.
Golf Cart Floor Liner Mat

Golf cart floors get dirty and faded. When I was younger and worked outside operations at a golf course, we would try to shine them so they appeared black and clean. The problem is that after a while, there is only so much you can do. It’s also important not to use anything that makes the floor slippery.
The liner mat is a great solution and it’s not hard to find one that matches the floorplan of most golf carts.
LED Light Bar Spot Flood Combo

The Nilight 72W LED Light Bar is a solid choice for golf carts. Its spot-flood combo beam provides both wide and long-distance illumination. Built to handle tough conditions with an IP67 waterproof rating and adjustable mounting, it’s a great option for off-road adventures, night driving or working in low-light environments.
Golf Cart Side Mirrors

Side mirrors are a safety necessity but some golf cart mirrors are better than others. We had some side mirrors on our old cart that started to rust and the overall view in the mirror itself was not clear. This simple upgrade takes a few minutes to install and will help you have a safer ride.
Sound Systems

If a golf Bluetooth speaker is enough for you, great magnetic options like the Bushnell Wingman View have yardage and sound. However, if you are a little more serious about sound, you may want to look into one of these golf cart sound systems. They are typically installed high up in the front of the cart.
Golf Cart Armrest Cup Holders

The armrest cup holders were a game-changer for our cart. We put these in the back so anybody sitting in the rear of the cart had room for their belongings. These are simple to install, not expensive and make a big difference in the cart’s functionality.
Hoodie Cooler

Some newer golf carts have built-in storage where it’s easy to store a cooler. If you have an older model, it’s not as easy. What I like about the Hoodie Cooler is that it’s out of the way. You won’t take up any more storage space and it holds a lot. It’s also super easy to take on and off so you don’t need to keep it in place if you don’t want to.
Custom Seat Covers

Custom seat covers can make an older golf cart look new. When you purchase seat covers, make sure you match the model of your current cart with all compatible colors. Get something easy to install (i.e., doesn’t need a stapler or nails) and can be wiped clean.
Final thoughts
More extensive golf cart customizations include adding rear seats to a two-seater cart or converting your golf cart to run on a lithium battery. Start with something small and see how you like, making your cart a better fit for your needs. Local golf shops offer their services to do many of these customizations.
