2023 Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Putters
Scotty Cameron announces new Champions Choice limited-edition putters.
Putters are CNC milled from 303 stainless steel, featuring a teryllium insert and aluminum sole weight.
All models are Plus versions of the classic Cameron Newport and Newport 2 heads.
At shops July 28 with a MSRP of $700
At the end of the month, Scotty Cameron is bringing us another Champions Choice limited-edition putter line. When the original Champions Choice line launched back in 2021, I thought it was a one-and-done thing: the teryllium button-back putters surfacing briefly, then vanishing again for another decade.
Honestly, with so many surprise putter happenings this summer, I should have expected something like this. Add new Scotty Cameron teryllium button-back putters to the list of things that dropped my jaw and emptied my Venmo this summer.
Seriously, I’m not sure how putter lovers are going to make it through this summer financially. Is skipping a mortgage payment really that harmful to your credit score? (Asking for a friend.)
The Champions Choice Rundown from the Man Himself
That video sets the vibe for the new 2023 Scotty Cameron Champions Choice putter line but it is a little light on the details. No worries! That’s what I am here for. The only question I don’t have the answer for is, “Why there isn’t there an apostrophe after “Champions.’”
I’m goofing a bit but “Champions” is a well-earned descriptor. Four of the last seven men’s major champions have won using Scotty Cameron putters.
The 2023 Scotty Cameron Champions Choice limited-edition putter line features four variations of Scotty Cameron’s classic Newport and Newport 2 designs.
Each model will be available in both “plumbing” and “jet” necks. I know I have ranted about this before but can everyone please agree on hosel names?
Regardless, the Newport 1.5 and Newport 2.5 both will have deeper toe hang and should pair better with a more arcing stroke.
The other interesting design tidbit about the 2023 Scotty Cameron Champions Choice models is that they are all Plus models. Scotty calls these “tweener” models, living somewhere between the stock Newport and the more mallet-like Squareback.
As one who is gaming a 2020 Most Wanted Special Select Squareback 2, the Newport 2 Plus has me curious.
Buttons and Teryllium
Yes, I could just go and pick up a Super Select Newport 2+, but that putter is missing the one big feature that I want: the teryllium insert. I deep dove into teryllium a bit back in the 2021 Champions Choice article.
Teryllium is a copper alloy made up of 12 different metals. It retains the look of copper but the combination of other metals makes Teryllium feel unique, especially when combined with the insert’s elastomer underlayer.
Speaking of elastomer, the 2023 Scotty Cameron Champions Choice putters feature a new “high-tech vibration dampening material placed between the teryllium inlay and the putter head that provides unmatched feel and feedback,” says the creator.
Now I really want to roll these to see how this new design feels.

Champions Choice Newport Plus Button Back
Crafted slightly wider than a standard Newport with an I-beam style plumbing neck and teryllium insert, its 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum soleplate is engineered into the precision-milled 303 stainless steel putter head for proper balance, ideal weight distribution and higher MOI.
It’s interesting to see how this classic design has adapted to the modern era. The rounded rear bumpers are classic Newport but the larger profile and the aluminum soleplate are 21st Century additions. Both of those modern features boost the MOI of the putter, providing the blade putter with more stability and forgiveness.

Champions Choice Newport 1.5 Plus Button Back
Based on the Newport Plus head shape, this model features an I-beam style jet neck for players favoring a naturally arced putting stroke. Its teryllium inlay is fused to the 303 stainless steel putter head with vibration dampening technology and a three-button- head-screw configuration for outstanding feel and feedback.
Do you have putters that you love the look of but just don’t putt that well with? It took me a while to come to terms with the reality that I putt better with a Newport 2 than a Newport. I love the sleeker look of the Newport but the Newport 2 puts balls in cups.
Why mention this? Because I had a flow-neck phase. I love the look of the flow neck at address but the plumber’s neck fits my stroke better. If you want to make putts, go with what fits.

Champions Choice Newport 2 Plus Button Back
Designed by working with the game’s best players at Scotty’s Putter Studio, the Plus models’ wider profiles were designed for players looking for a slightly bigger blade and even more confident alignment. Coupled with the feel of teryllium, this Tour-proven model is a glimpse into the future of putter development.
This is the worst putter in the batch. Do not buy a Champions Choice Newport 2 Plus Button Back. Your friends will make fun of you and no dog will ever let you pet them. Babies will cry in your presence. You will aspire to be considered a pariah.
In no way is that above statement based upon the fact that this is the model that I will be hunting for. Let me take the ridicule for you. If you see the Newport 2 Plus in your shop, don’t buy it. I will be there soon to give it a new home. Dave Wolfe, putter humanitarian.

Champions Choice Newport 2.5 Plus Button Back
Also offered in a left- handed version and based on the Newport 2 Plus head size, this model features an I-beam style jet neck for players creating a naturally arced putting stroke. Lending the Button Back style its name, three button head screws in conjunction with improved vibration dampening technology fuses the Teryllium inlay to the putter head.
Did you southpaws read that paragraph? The Champions Choice Newport 2.5 Plus Button Back will be available for lefties! While left-handed people are allowed to buy any of the putters, this model will fit their putting stances. Lefties may only get one model but it is a big blocky sexy beast with a fetching little slant neck.

Final Thoughts on the Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Putter Line
Back in 2021, I caught a bit of flack when I said that the Champions Choice limited-edition putters were reasonably priced at $600. I stand by that statement. For a couple of hundred dollars more than the stock model, you got the limited-edition aesthetics and the glorious teryllium insert.
The aesthetics are unique in 2023 as well. Just check out the unique (and cool) grip and headcover.
So how do I feel about these being priced at $700?
When I saw the price, my first thought was once again “reasonable.” I had forgotten that the 2021 model was only $600. Maybe that Benjamin bump makes these a bit less reasonable but I’d argue no less desirable.
These are going to go quickly. Like sold out at your local shop today, not on July 28 when they are available. I tried to score a Champions Choice Newport 2 last time around and was unsuccessful. My feelers are already out looking for a Newport 2 Plus. If I happen to find one, I’ll splash some photos across the socials.

FAQ: Scotty Cameron Champions Choice putter line.
How much will these putters cost and where can I buy one?
The MSRP for the Scotty Cameron Champions Choice line is $700 and they will be in shops on July 28. I suggest putting in your order as soon as possible. These won’t end up sitting in the rack collecting dust.
Are these a good investment?
Hello, my nemesis. Thank you for stopping by. So you want me to help you justify buying a putter that will never touch the grass? Never!
Realistically I would say these will increase in value. According to my extensive eBay research (one search), it looks like the 2021 Champions Choice models are going for $900 to $1,500 depending on condition.
Why are they all plus sized?
Because they make the rocking world go ‘round! The Newport Plus and Newport 2 Plus are Scotty Cameron’s latest design shapes. It makes sense to give them the limited-edition treatment. Yes, I know they were already offered as Jet Set limited editions last summer.
Why are the words “putting”: and “putting” spelled the same but mean different things? When putting, aren’t we eventually putting the ball in the hole?
Linguistically, I’ve got no clue, but I appreciate the new path you’ve given me for my mind to wander. I think I will now refer to my putter using the double “o” sound of the “to place” verb. Gonna get me a new pooter real soon…
