It’s driver release season and one of the first companies to get the ball rolling was COBRA. COBRA has released its new DS-ADAPT line of drivers. They call this their “fastest and most fittable family of drivers.” If you’re thinking about a COBRA upgrade this year or just curious about what is changing in the world of golf drivers, here are eight things to know about COBRA’s new DS-ADAPT drivers.
10,000 MOI in the MAX-K
Interestingly, the three other drivers in the lineup do not hit this 10,000 MOI threshold. Maximum MOI isn’t for everyone.
FF33 adjustable hosel system
This brand-new technology offers 33 settings to adjust the driver. If you really want a driver that feels like it’s made for you, the DS-ADAPT will allow you to fine-tune launch, spin and ball flight.
Refined shaping for better aerodynamics
All driver manufacturers play with shaping the driver’s head with each new release. The COBRA DS-ADAPT is a bit more compact. You’ll see this with the LS model.
COBRA used a dropped-heel design to ensure greater speed without compromising spin rates.
Separate models for different needs
The DS-ADAPT comes in four models: the MAX-K, the MAX-D, the X, and the LS. The MAX models are more forgiving and made for golfers who may slice while the LS and X are for players looking for control and precision.
Model | Spin | Forgiveness | Launch |
---|---|---|---|
DS-ADAPT MAX-D Driver | Medium-Low | Extreme | High (With Draw-Bias) |
DS-ADAPT LS Driver | Low | Medium-Low | Low |
DS-ADAPT X Driver | Low | High | Medium |
DS-ADAPT MAX-K Driver | Medium-Low | Extreme | High |
Adaptive-tech weighting
All four drivers in the DS-ADAPT lineup feature loft-specific adaptive-tech weighting. The weight distribution within the driver is positioned to achieve the optimal ball flight and forgiveness based on the clubhead’s specific loft.
The lower-lofted ( nine-degree) models will have a flatter, lower-spinning flight in the X and LS.
For the MAX-K and MAX-D drivers, the weight is positioned to offer a higher MOI or a draw bias.
H.O.T. Face technology
The DS-ADAPT drivers incorporate H.O.T. Face technology which utilizes AI-driven machine learning to optimize the face’s topology. The goal is to increase ball speed across more of the face. This isn’t new technology from COBRA but it has been improved in the new DS-ADAPT model.
Moveable weights for customization
The LS and X models feature moveable weights that further enhance customization. They also feature the FF33 hosel so the possibilities to fine-tune this driver to your needs are nearly endless.
With all the customization opportunities, the DS-ADAPT LS and X models are the most customizable drivers on the market. The MAX-K and MAX-D models have fixed weights but still feature the adjustable hosel.
No compatibility with older models
The new FF33 hosel adapter is not compatible with previous COBRA MyFly8-tipped shafts. If you want to upgrade to the DS-ADAPT, you will have to go all-in.
Final thoughts
We will test the COBRA DS-ADAPT drivers in our 2025 Best Golf Driver testing where we will examine forgiveness, distance and accuracy and how these clubs perform for amateur players.
