PING has released a new PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition mallet putter at retail. This Viktor Hovland-inspired putter was previously only available as a limited edition. The putter will be available at PING authorized retailers with a MSRP of $485.
PING just announced the release of their new PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition mallet putter. The announcement gave me a feeling of deja vu since PING released a limited-edition Hovland DS72 just last October.
Why are they releasing a putter that they already released?
One could speculate that the summer heat has finally got to the folks in Phoenix. It’s either that or this DS72 must be different from the one offered last year.
While I will never downplay the impact of the Arizona sun, the new PLD Milled SE DS72 Hovland Edition mallet putter is in fact different from the previous release, and that’s a good thing.
PING is calling this new putter the Hovland Edition, and with good reason. In many ways, this new PLD DS72 is just like the one that Viktor Hovland uses on the PGA Tour.
A professional bettor had a boatload riding on Tiger Woods and seven other players *not* to win The Open. Here's the logic behind the wager.

Outside of one phenomenal player, LIV Golf had a forgettable major season.
Bryson DeChambeau catapulted himself to being among the top few players in the world based on winning the U.S. Open and coming one shot short at the PGA Championship. There is no doubt he is a bonafide threat heading into the 2025 major season.
But beyond DeChambeau’s remarkable play, LIV struggled mightily in the four majors—the only events all year where the best players get together.
It began at the Masters where, despite a limited field and plenty of representation, LIV failed to get anyone in serious contention. No LIV player came within nine strokes of victor Scottie Scheffler as the top five on the leaderboard were all PGA Tour players.
The PGA Championship featured an electric DeChambeau in a battle against Tour players Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland—but the only other LIV golfer in the top 25 was Dean Burmester (T12).
TPT Golf shafts may not be what you think they are.
For instance, if you think TPT Golf shafts are just another high-priced upgrade that offers no real benefit, they may not be what you think they are.
Then again, if you think all driver heads are the same and the shaft makes all the difference, TPT Golf shafts may not be what you think they are.
If you remember TPT Golf shafts as the shafts that kept breaking back in 2018, we have to tell you:
They’re definitely not what you think they are.

As the elder statesman among the MyGolfSpy writing staff, I put up with more than my share of abuse. Recently, after yet another gutta percha joke and being asked repeatedly if I went to school with Old Tom Morris, I filed a complaint with our HR department.
Unfortunately, the source of the quips was our Director of Content Connor Lindeman – who is also our HR department. He told me he’d look into it.
After a month of deliberations (in reality, he forgot all about it – something about having a baby, blah, blah, blah), Connor told me MyGolfSpy was ready to settle: $1,500 to spend on old and vintage golf clubs, but I’d have to write an article about it.
I told him I wasn’t sure I could afford the $1,500 and asked if I could pay it in installments.
He said no, they’d pay me.
We all start our golfing journey in a unique way. Some grow up with the game, club in hand from the time they can walk. Others find it later in life, maybe as a teenager or a twenty-something looking for a new hobby. Some will start later in life, which shines a light on the beauty of the sport: anyone, at any age, can pick it up.
I fall into the twenty-something category. I grew up a three-sport athlete, football, basketball, baseball. My parents or friends didn’t play golf so I never had exposure to the game as a kid. In fact, the first time I picked up a club, I was a 21-year-old college junior. An injury ended my college baseball career and I needed to fill that void so I decided to take a one-credit elective golf “class.”
While that class was entertaining, the only real takeaway I can recall is lining up your feet like train tracks towards the ball when you putt to make sure you are square. We took a walking field trip to a driving range at the end of the semester, which was the first time I took a swing at an actual golf ball.
I had no clubs and am left-handed. There were three irons that of the lefty variety for me to use. As you can imagine, I was bound to fail. I played a couple of rounds with friends before the school year was over and used a rental mixed bag from the local course. While this might pass as serviceable for some, I am 6’4” and nothing about standard-length clubs fits me.
Had I known what I do now, I’d have taken a very different approach to starting this game that I have grown to love so much. In this article, I’ll cover some things I wish I’d done differently or I wish someone had told me when I started playing the game.
