New For 2023: adidas ZG23 Golf Shoes

Good things come to those who wait!

Two years after the successful launch of the ZG21 spiked golf shoe, adidas is introducing the all-new ZG23. The three-stripes brand is confident  the two-year hiatus will be worth it, claiming the all-new ZG23 should boast increased traction, stability and comfort.

The Details

Five models including men’s and women’s laced, men’s and women’s BOA, and a watered-down laced variant for junior golfers.Available on adidas.com starting March 3.Retail is $200 for the laced variant, $220 for BOA.

What’s New?

jQuery(document).ready(function($) { var slides = $('#mgs_gallery_239774 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image').length; if ( slides 6 ) { slides = 6; } $('#mgs_gallery_239774 .mgs-gallery-images').slick({ slidesToShow: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: '', nextArrow: '', asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_239774 .mgs-gallery-thumbs', swipe: false, }); $('#mgs_gallery_239774 .mgs-gallery-thumbs').slick({ slidesToShow: (slides-1), //less than number of slides, so it always shows infinite scroll (bugfix) slidesToScroll: 1, arrows: false, asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_239774 .mgs-gallery-images', centerMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, responsive: [ { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, } }, { breakpoint: 600, settings: { slidesToShow: 1, } }, ] }); $('#mgs_gallery_239774').magnificPopup({ delegate: '.mgs-gallery-trigger', type: 'image', gallery: { enabled:true, arrowMarkup: '', } }); });

The ZG21 was a stand-out performer in our Best Spiked Golf Shoes of 2022 testing so it would be safe to assume adidas stuck with that proven formula for the ZG23, right?

Wrong.

Why do you think it took two years to replace its predecessor? The ZG23 has been completely retooled, including an entirely new upper and midsole design.

Two New Finishes for the Cleveland RTX 6 ZipCore Golf Wedges

Key Takeaways:

Cleveland adds Black Satin and Tour Rack (raw) finishes.Tour Rack offers additional custom sole and leading-edge grinds.Black Satin $169.99; Tour Rack $189.99 (custom grinds included)At retail March 1

The two new finishes for the new Cleveland RTX 6 ZipCore wedges aren’t really new. And they aren’t really a surprise, either.

We knew they were coming back in January. We just didn’t know when. Now we do.

The two new-not-really-new finishes are Tour Rack and Black Satin. Cleveland added both finishes to the original ZipCore lineup in the fall of 2020. And, if you want to get technical, it’s really only one finish since Tour Rack is unplated and, well, raw.

Of the two, the Tour Rack is definitely the most interesting. Since it’s raw, Cleveland is giving you the ability to custom grind the sole and leading edge to your exact specifications. Just like that, it came the, ahem, Tour Rack.

If you’re a sole grind geek, it’ll give you plenty to geek out about.

Wrap: Scheffler Repeats, Tiger To Play Genesis

Water hazards are among the best and most thrilling of natural strategy, and sometimes artificial water hazards are well conceived. Like everything else, such trouble should not be overdone. As noted before, diversity, and yet again, variety, is the spice of a golf course. GEORGE THOMAS

The Rain Rooster: Red Rooster’s Rad Rain Golf Glove

The new Rain Rooster rain golf glove is the answer to a question you only think about when it’s raining. And even then you might not think to ask it.

And that question is: Why the hell can’t anyone make a rain glove that, you know, works?

The answer, courtesy of the gang at Red Rooster, is you can make a rain glove that works.

But you have to want to.

The problem is, however, that making a rain glove that works isn’t as simple as it may seem.

Sub 70 TAIII Wedges – Key Takeaways

New forged wedges designed by Tommy Armour IIIMilled sole with modest bounce for versatilityTour Satin, Tour Raw and Black Diamond-Like Carbon finishes$135 per stick. Shaft, grip and ferrule upgrades availableAvailable now at GolfSub70.com

The new Sub 70 TAIII wedges are a modern answer to that age-old question that you probably never asked: What would happen if an innovative club designer/direct-to-consumer pioneer gives a gearhead PGA TOUR veteran/grandson of a golf legend free rein to make a set of wedges?

C’mon, you mean you’ve never asked that question?

Well, you’ll want to ask it now. Sub 70 founder Jason Hiland and Tommy Armour III have teamed up again. The duo nailed it last year with their TAIII forged blades. And if the early returns are any indication, the TAIII forged wedges will definitely be worthy of your attention.

A Hiland/Armour Production, Part II

You know Hiland as the maverick golf entrepreneur who turned Sub 70 from an online curiosity into a direct-to-consumer paradigm buster. And Tommy Armour III is a longtime Tour veteran who held the PGA TOUR four-round scoring record for 14 years.

Oh, yeah, and his namesake grandfather—the Silver Scot himself—was a legendary golfer whose name is on two of the biggest-selling irons of all time.

Major(s) News & Notes, February 9, 2023

Tour pros would rather go through an IRS audit than play in a pro-am. Publicly they say they love meeting interesting people and how great the pro-ams are. In truth, they loathe them. They're out there for six hours, see countless bad shots and hear the same stale jokes. If Tim Finchem announced next Monday that pro-ams were henceforth eliminated, he'd find 200 cases of champagne on his porch Tuesday morning. TOM WEISKOPF

Keeping Your Sanity When You Golf

Recreational golfers love to imitate the pros that they watch on TV but it may be doing you more harm than good. Of course we all want to make shots like the pros but their exceptional shots may be killing our mental focus and sending our games down the drain.

If the pros can land a 150 yard shot over a well trapped narrow green, why can’t we? For one thing, we don’t have the height and backspin with our 6 or 7 iron to hold the green. I tried this shot yesterday and it cost me 2 more shots to get my plugged ball out of the forward lip of a trap. What was I thinking?

Here are 2 more common sense thoughts that we should learn from the pros.

1/ Sinking 10-15 foot Putts: Last year’s leader in this category was Alex Noren. He sank 43% of those mid-range putts. The Tour average was just 30%. Recreational golfers should be happy to sink 10-15% of these putts. My point here is that you should not lose your cool if you miss a 10-15 foot putt. Plan on passing the hole (as the short ones never go in) to give yourself a chance for success but you should be happy with a 2-putt from that distance.

If you miss a 10-15 foot putt DON’T GET ANGRY WITH YOUR PERFORMANCE.
