State Of The Game 119: Well That Escalated Quickly

To place a president of the United States in proper historical perspective might take several generations, but to evaluate the impact of Arnold Palmer on golf we need not wait. He has meant more to the game than anyone, ever, in virtually every conceivable way. NICK SEITZ

GOLFSTR+ is a training aid that has been available for many years to help golfers practice to improve 6 swing problems. There are now over 6,000 users of GOLFSTR+ and we plan to keep growing this number. We would like to thank the many users for their suggestions to promote and expand the applications where this training aid can be used.

Websites like Golf-Info-Guide by Thomas Golf have helped us promote GOLFSTR+ when blogging about exercises to rotate your straight leading arm to improve your backswing for a more powerful swing.
Right way to keep the left arm straight: https://golf-info-guide.com/video-golf-tips/the-right-way-to-keep-your-left-arm-straight-video/

Unfortunately, other companies have been stealing our graphics and removing our GOLFSTR logo to promote their products. There really is no other product which does what GOLFSTR+ does to help you correct 6 swing mistakes. Michael Breed, a former commentator on the Golf Channel, even called to say that “there is no other product that will give you 6 swing fixes and you can simply slide it in your pocket.”
If you see promotions using our graphics, please let us know. One of our early users tipped us off to a recent illegal use of our Octopus Golfer graphic on a Facebook and Instagram page which led to the removal and corrective action. We love to see others use our graphics as long as they help promote GOLFSTR+ as a unique brand provided by Innovation Unlimited Inc.

This graphic of the 6 Uses for GOLFSTR+ was designed and published in advertising to promote GOLFSTR+. We encourage anyone to use it as long as the brand name is not removed.

Thank you for your continued interest in GOLFSTR+. Buy one today at www.GOLFSTR.com

Rory On Phil: "People will welcome him back and be glad that he is back."

In advance of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rory McIlroy was asked about the fleeing from Phil Mickelson and if it’s gone overboard.

It is unfortunate. I think Phil has been a wonderful ambassador for the game of golf, still is a wonderful ambassador for the game of golf. It's unfortunate that a few comments that he thought he was making in confidence or off the record got out there and were -- not used against him, but this whole situation is unfortunate.

Look, Phil will be back. I think the players want to see him back. He's done such a wonderful job for the game of golf, and he's represented the game of golf very, very well for the entirety of his career.

Look, we all make mistakes. We all say things we want to take back. No one is different in that regard. But we should be allowed to make mistakes, and we should be allowed to ask for forgiveness and for people to forgive us and move on. Hopefully, he comes back at some stage, and he will, and people will welcome him back and be glad that he is back.

The New KYOEI KK Muscle Back!

This makes three new releases for KYOEI Golf in as many days!  All new irons from two new cavities to this stunning blade.  Each model is offered in two stunning finishes,  enhanced chrome satin, and black PVD.

KYOEI has developed these irons for more than 2 years,  originally starting off as a limited run of handmade prototypes then through testing with both customers and expert club equipment testers their designs and features evolved into what has just been released.

Let’s start with some of the most notable changes vs the prototypes.  First is the CNC milled grooves and faces which ensure maximum spin and consistent flatness across the face.  KYOEI’s designers have some background in dealing with the USGA & R&A which often scans the faces for groove conformity and during this process can find groove depth inconsistency as well as high or low spots on the face, By using computer-controlled milling this eliminates any of those potential issues.  Ideally, you want a perfectly flat face as well as grooves that are consistently deep, wide, and sharp.

On all three new models, the back face is also milled which benefits both aesthetics and performance.  With the specific center of gravity height/depth locations for each individual number iron, it is important to make sure the weight is placed in the right spot consistently throughout the full production of each model.  This creates consistency in performance and ultimately improves accuracy.

Rob Manfred Air-Practicing His Swing May Set The Game Back A Decade

Golf is a game, a great and glorious game, the greatest game any man was ever privileged to play. It is played for pleasure—for the modest and natural pleasure of walking around in the good clean air and for that other exquisite and almost unbearable pleasure of watching a perfect drive describe its graceful arc against a pure spring sky. Even those of us who earn our livings at the game, I can assure you, play it more for the pleasure than for the money. ARNOLD PALMER

Acushnet’s 2021 Financial Report

Acushnet’s 2021 Financial Report – Key Takeaways

Acushnet’s 2021 net sales approached $2.2 billion.Up 33 percent over 2020 and 31 percent over 2019Full-year net profit was nearly $179 million.Acushnet projects a relatively flat 2022.

There are some mighty interesting tidbits in Acushnet’s 2021 financial report. A couple of them are so interesting that they forced us to go back and review Callaway’s 2021 financial report.

And what did we find? More interesting stuff.

First of all, it doesn’t take Warren Buffett to look in the rearview mirror and see Acushnet’s days as golf’s biggest company getting smaller in the distance. Callaway’s acquisition of Topgolf saw to that. But, despite the widening gap, the two companies are more alike than you might think.

And, depending on how you keep score, they’re a lot closer than you might think.

As we dive into Acushnet’s financials, it’s time to remind everyone that we aren’t—nor do we pretend to be—financial whiz kids. We’re just a gang who loves the golf business and we like to read. So with that in mind, let’s jump in.

How to watch the PGA Tour's Arnold Palmer Invitational on ESPN+

The PGA Tour goes to Arnie's place. Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau won't be there, but a solid field will be. Here's how to watch on ESPN+.

Club Pro Guy Introduces Non-Conforming "Punchout" Club

Palmer on a golf course was Jack Dempsey with his man on the ropes, Henry Aaron with a three-and-two fastball, Laver at set point, Joe Montana with a minute to play, A.J. Foyt with a lap to go and a car to catch. He never hit a safe shot. He tried to make 2 on every hole. Sometimes, he made 12. That was Palmer. They loved him for it. No one ever quite commanded the rapport with a gallery Palmer did. Players hated to play with him--or in front of him or in back of him. The audience was Palmer’s and they were legion. Part of it was, he swung like they did. Palmer went after the ball like a guy beating a carpet. It wasn’t pretty but it was effective. He won 62 tournaments but always managed to look like a refugee from the truck drivers’ flight at the local municipal. JIM MURRAY on Arnold Palmer

R&A Adds A Diversity Ambassador

He’s a strong hoodie advocate and has a name out of central casting, so I wish him all the luck trying to diversify golf in the land of Brexit.

ZANE SCOTLAND BECOMES A DIVERSITY AMBASSADOR FOR THE R&A

01 March 2022, St Andrews, Scotland: The R&A has appointed Zane Scotland as a diversity ambassador to support the development of initiatives that encourage more people from ethnically diverse communities into golf.

As part of the new partnership, Scotland is assisting with the interpretation of research to understand the challenges that exist for ethnically diverse communities and identify actions that can be taken to break down barriers and make golf more welcoming and appealing.

He will also play an important role in engaging with active golf societies including British Black Golfers and the Muslim Golf Association to foster valuable relationships and generate involvement in future activity.

New KYOEI KK CB Irons

Introducing the all-new 2022 KYOEI KK CB!  This is KYOEI’s new flagship forged cavity back iron.  KYOEI has just announced a new Dual Weight II iron also offered in two finishes and in a couple of days, you are likely to see another new release from the brand.

2 years in the making,  you may have seen its first iteration known as the 2021 Handmade Limited iron which was produced using traditional heavier blank forgings and pressed grooves.  After tens of thousands of balls hit and many tester’s feedback the final retail release as seen here is much improved.

The new KK CB’s intended shape and center of gravity locations have been refined to specific heights and depths in each number club.  Various top-rated forged irons from the other top brands were evaluated to isolate what aspects of the design and performance worked and just as important what attributes did not.

The end result is what KYOEI plans to be in their product line up for more than a few seasons,  Yes folks it’s that good and as someone who has played every KYOEI iron including the Limited handmade’s that these were based on,  I must say the brand has released an outstanding new line across the board.

The new KK CB also features the brand’s newly evolved modern 5 cut sole design.  The sole grind is extremely versatile performing well for both diggers and sweepers. KYOEI has been testing the 5 cut soles for many years and their newest version interacts with the turf and even feels superior to the last version.

Jason Day Joins Bridgestone

Jason Day Joins Bridgestone – Key Takeaways

Former World No. 1 Day joins Bridgestone’s Tour StaffDay joins Tiger, Bryson, Fred Couples, Lexi Thompson and Matt KucharHe’ll be gaming the 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B X

It’s not as earth-shattering as the day it signed the world’s 650th ranked player, but today’s news from Bridgestone is noteworthy. The word out of Covington, GA is former World No. 1 Jason Day is joining the Bridgestone Tour Staff starting this weekend in Orlando at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Terms of the multiyear deal are unannounced, but Bridgestone does say Day will be playing the 2022 Tour B X “for the foreseeable future.” Day joins Tiger, Bryson, Matt Kuchar, Fred Couples and Lexi Thompson in the Bridgestone stable.

“We’ve been working with him for over a year now,” Bridgestone Golf Ball Fitting Manager Adam Rehberg tells MyGolfSpy. “He’s very comfortable with the ball now and he wants to be a bigger part of the team.”

A Long Day’s Journey

Day started experimenting with the Bridgestone TOUR B XS nearly two years ago, after playing with Tiger at Bay Hill. He was still under contract with TaylorMade at the time but asked Tiger for a sleeve of his balls to try. After his TaylorMade deal ran out, Day put the XS into play on his own without a deal.

“But as you guys have said, the Tiger ball doesn’t fit everybody,” Rehberg told us. “It can be way too spinny, even for a guy like Jason Day. He already had plenty of spin around the greens, but he found with the XS he was getting some floaty shots with his 6- through 9-irons. The X was a little more stable for him.”

Zach Johnson Plans To Retain Qualifying System, Not So Sure About Mickelson's Possible Role

The announcement of Zach Johnson’s Ryder Cup Captaincy came packed with qualifying details for the 2023 matches outside Rome. Looking rested and sporting a robust mane, Johnson was hit with questions about a Phil Mickelson vice captaincy, a task force tradition in advance of a presumed leadership role in 2025. On that, Johnson was less definitive. Instead of saying “it’s 19 months away”, the answers were a roundabout way of suggesting a Mickelson role appears unlikely.

You can watch the full session here.

The press release followed by the video of a Mickelson exchange not in the official transcript.
