BOA Golf Shoe: What’s The Benefit (7 Pairs To Try)

BOA Golf Shoe: What’s The Benefit (7 Pairs To Try)

Are you the type of golfer who ties and then reties your shoes several times throughout the course of a round? If you are picky about the fit and that little bit of snugness in your shoes, a BOA golf shoe could be a really good solution. Before you invest in BOA shoes, here are a few things to know and some of our favorite BOA shoes.

What is BOA on a golf shoe?

BOA Golf Shoes

The BOA fit is a unique technology that helps golfers (and other athletes) get the perfect fit in their shoes. Every BOA shoe has a dial that allows you to tighten or loosen the laces to achieve ideal pressure and stability.

With BOA technology in place, it’s much easier to get your shoes on and adjust the fit while on the course.

Are BOA golf shoes good?

BOA golf shoes are good for players who continually adjust their shoelaces. In addition, if you have some speed in your swing and your movements tend to loosen your shoes throughout a round, BOA golf shoes are a good choice. BOA golf shoes combine comfort, performance and practicality.

BOA Golf Shoes To Try

If you are ready to make the leap into the BOA golf shoe technology, here are a few pairs to try and some of our results when we tested them.

adidas ZG23 BOA

The adidas ZG23 BOA had an impressive performance in our 2023 Best Spiked Golf Shoes test. Winning fourth place, the ZG23 BOA is one of the best adidas shoes this year.

With a wide fit and the micro-adjustable dial-based BOA Fit System, this shoe fits well on a wide range of players.

adidas charges a bit more for the BOA Fit System in the ZG23 BOA but it has been redesigned to ensure longevity and durability. The adidas ZG23 BOA has a one-year waterproof warranty. Golfers with wide feet who value comfort, durability and a high-quality BOA system will like this shoe.

adidas S2G BOA Spikeless

Another adidas BOA shoe that went through one of our “We Tried It” tests is the adidas S2G BOA Spikeless. The adidas S2G BOA Spikeless is one of the more affordable BOA golf shoes.

Expect a waterproof outer layer, comfortable sock liner, Bounce midsole and, of course, the dial-based BOA Fit System. This would be a good place to start if you are looking for BOA on a budget.

FootJoy Tour Alpha Dual

Tour Alpha Dual BOA

What’s better than one BOA system on a golf shoe? Two! The FootJoy Tour Alpha Dual has two BOA Fit System dials to help improve overall fit. We tested the FootJoy Tour Alpha Dual with impressive ChromoSkin waterproof leather and the OrthoLite Impressions ™ Fit Bed.

In addition to the impressive BOA technology, FootJoy incorporated their Optimized Performance Stabilizer for golfers who like to go after the ball a little. This is a premium shoe design with exceptional fit and enough comfort to make it worth the price.

adidas Codechaos 22 BOA

If you are into spikeless golf shoe technology, you probably already have a few pairs of Codechaos lying around. When we tested the unique zipper design of the adidas Codechaos 22 BOA, it performed quite well. The zipper makes getting the shoe on and off easy and the BOA Fit system locks you into place.

To make the adidas Codechaos 22 BOA even more user-friendly, it features BOOST Foam for additional comfort and a molded EVA sock liner. Performance from these shoes was quite good but the look may not work for every player.

ECCO Biom G5 BOA

Ecco G5 BOA

The ECCO Biom G5 took first place in the “elements” testing of spiked shoes this year. If you need a golf shoe that holds up in any weather and also features BOA technology, the ECCO Biom G5 is a great choice. The Biom G5 struggled with traction but showed well for stability and comfort.

Made with waterproof GORE-TEX technology, your feet are not getting wet in this shoe. In addition, the combination of Biom Natural Motion technology and the BOA makes the Biom 5 feel like a custom shoe.

adidas Solarmotion BOA

The adidas Solarmotion BOA golf shoes were part of the 2023 Best Spikeless Golf Shoe Testing, and even won first place in the Women’s Spikeless Golf Shoe test. With these BOA shoes, adidas had comfort in mind but we found that they performed best when it came to stability. The Gripmore rubber outsole gives you a nice base of support, especially for a spikeless golf shoe.

The Solarmotion BOA shoes are made with a combination of recycled materials, a popular move by shoe manufacturers in 2023.

ECCO Biom C4 BOA

Ecco C4 BOA

If you play golf in the rain or wet weather, the ECCO Biom C4 BOA is your best choice for a spikeless waterproof shoe. The Biom C4 also ranked high when we tested it for stability, most likely due to the Biom Natural Motion technology.

We tested three ECCO shoes as part of our 2023 Best Spikeless Golf shoe test and the Biom C4 BOA ranked the highest. It was also the only ECCO BOA shoe we tested that may say something about how ideal fit and comfort play into choosing the perfect golf shoe.

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is that BOA costs a few dollars more but it makes custom fit and stability much more attainable. We are used to having to “dial in” those wedge shots but with BOA technology, you can literally dial in the fit of a golf shoe, too. The adidas ZG23 BOA is our overall highest-performing BOA shoe from the 2023 testing and one you should consider.
