Callaway REVA Lineup
Let’s face facts. Most women swing the club slower than their male counterparts. In addition, they are not as tall and less muscular than the average man. So it just makes sense that if a female golfer wants a set of clubs off the rack, that set is built differently than a set of men’s standard clubs.
Voila!
The new Callaway Big Bertha REVA golf clubs are designed for women. Do they share a lot of technology and visuals with the Big Bertha range (read about it here)? Sure. But these are designed specifically for women and that technology is generally tweaked for higher launch and spin to keep the ball in the air longer.
REVA la Revolution
That’s Reva, pronounced like revolution. It’s the second-generation Big Bertha Reva, by the way.
According to Kim Johnson, Callaway Retail Marketing Manager and Women’s Task Force Lead, “we’re proud to be making the best performance products for women. We’re No. 1 on the LPGA Tour and we make something for every woman, no matter where they are in their golf journey.
“You’re going to see a lot of effort from the Women’s Task force at Callaway, we have a lot of different opinions based on a lot of consumer insights. We’ve done a ton of research with LPGA players all the way to women who are just starting in the game.
“This is a more aspirational product. This is the product for women who are ready to upgrade, ready for real technology that is specifically designed for the golfer who’s playing more recreationally and something that’s going to hit the ball straighter and create more distance.”
While the products are visually the same as the Big Bertha line-up (albeit with a very sweet purple trim) and feature the same technologies, internally there are key differences. While the irons feature the same construction, Dave Neville, Senior Director Equipment at Callaway, says “it is a complete package with differences in tungsten, the A.I. Face, Swing weight, shaft and overall loft. They are designed to get that ball in the air and maximize carry.”
The hybrids, like in the men’s Big Bertha range, are available all the way up to a 9H. “You’re seeing more hybrids in the women’s game,” says Johnson. “We’re seeing more replacements in the 4-, 5- and 6-hybrids. They’re easy to hit, they’re nice to look at and they’re forgiving.”
Fairway woods are also much more common in the women’s game. And for good reason. They are designed to get the ball up easily. That shallow face is even more vital here.
“We’re seeing a lot more fairway woods finding their way into bags,” says Johnson. “Players switching into a fairway wood like this are probably hitting them into the green which means they need them to hold the green and you’re seeing more of them in the bag.”
The Big Bertha Reva driver is designed to be easy to hit and be long. The XL face has a big hitting area while the stretched-out crown is confidence-inspiring. It has lightweight Jailbreak, A.I. Face and a Triaxial carbon crown.
