In support of its mission to champion and advance the game of golf and in appreciation of its continued preservation and celebration of her legacy, the USGA announced that late four-time U.S. Women’s Open champion Mickey Wright has bequeathed her estate and possessions to the USGA.
Wright, who died Feb.17 at the age of 85, was the defining female player of the 1950s and 1960s. The preservation of her story is imperative to the USGA’s mission to chronicle the history of women’s golf and share it with generations to come.
The massive collection of more than 300 artifacts related to Wright’s professional career and personal life includes correspondence, photo albums, scrapbooks, equipment, medals, awards, films and videos, as well as her personal writings, library, record collection and other materials that highlight Wright’s diverse interests, such as sculpture, fishing and the stock market. The collection will be housed at the USGA Golf Museum and Library in Liberty Corner, N.J., alongside the collections of many of the game’s greatest champions.

A few early wins made Alexander Chin realize he was on the right path, but it wasn’t until he reached the quarterfinals of the California Amateur Championship that he began aiming for a loftier goal.
“It wasn’t really a goal to be Player of the Year,” said Chin, a 21-year-old senior at the University of San Francisco. “After I saw where I was in the standings after the California Amateur though, I figured I had a shot.”
The Pleasanton native, who honed his skills on the Junior Tour of Northern California, added a new goal, and the pursuit was on. In the end, Chin would win Player of the Year honors with a total of 1,326 points. Runner-up Matt Cohn would finish at 1,223 points.

New season, but familiar results.
Jeff Burda, the 2020 NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year, shot a final round 1-under 70 Wednesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course to come from behind and win the annual NCGA Super Senior Championship. For the 67- year-old Burda, it’s his second Super Senior title in three years (2018). The victory also marked Burda’s record 11th career NCGA Senior title. Previously, he had been tied with Gary Vanier at 10 for the all-time lead.

Even though the 2020 edition is still several weeks away, the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open Championship is quickly approaching (less than 8 months to go!). We’re so lucky the championship will be held right here in Northern California at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, and member Erika Corradi has been selected as the general chair for the historic championship. We sat down (virtually of course!) with Erika to hear more about the planning, how it’s been affected by recent events, and what we can expect.
Q: General Chair. What exactly does that entail?
As chair of this event, I am the point person from the club’s side for championship logistics, and work closely with the USGA on major decisions that impact the role Olympic Club plays as host. The USGA has had staff members here in San Francisco for close to two years, and I act as their main point of contact and liaison with others from the club who are intimately involved in preparations.
Q: It’s been an odd year to say the least, but what have been the most rewarding moments so far?
