Dustin Johnson’s Limited-Edition 2020 Masters Spider
This April, TaylorMade will be releasing a special-edition Itsy Bitsy Spider putter to commemorate Dustin Johnson’s 2020 Masters victory. This Masters spider will be built to DJ’s play specs and feature custom aesthetics reflecting his first win at Augusta National.
“Growing up in South Carolina, winning in Augusta was my dream. When that dream finally came true last fall, I was speechless. The win was special for many reasons, as is the putter that helped me get the job done.”
-Dustin Johnson
We all know this is the time the golf market becomes flooded with products inspired by the “first major” of the year in men’s golf. Want an entire outfit decorated with pimento and cheese images? No doubt some company out there wants to make that happen for you. There are just so many goofy Masters products pursuing patrons’ paychecks. This is not one of them.
To me, this commemorative putter seems more legit than some other yellow and green golf swag as it helped DJ earn the bragging rights that come with the green jacket of a Masters champion. DJ put on a putting clinic that week with his impressive number of one-putts and by leading the field in strokes gained putting from six to nine feet (+.902).
Let’s take a look at DJ’s Masters Spider set-up and see what Augusta-themed tweaks TaylorMade has added to celebrate his 2020 victory.

If nothing else, it is pretty cool to see the build specs of this putter. For me, the greatest surprise is that it is 35 inches. I assumed the 6’4″ Johnson would need something longer. At 370 grams, his Itsy Bitsy Spider is packing a little more heft than normal. Other than that, the specs are all pretty stock.
Just like Johnson’s putter, this commemorative Spider does not have any alignment lines on top.
Dustin Johnson’s Masters Spider: The Masters Theme
The Masters theme for this putter starts with the box. It’s Augusta green on the outside with the inside covered with azaleas and other flowers. I appreciate that the box sets the stage for this being a special collectible.
The theme continues with the head cover. Included with the putter will be the same head cover design that DJ used during the tournament. I love this idea rather than creating a new design. I remember this one being in DJ’s bag during the event so it’s the one that fits the victory theme. The putter itself gets dressed up with a custom SuperStroke grip as well as green accents on the sole and shaft band. Overall, the theme is subtle, keeping with the overall minimal aesthetics that DJ prefers.
DJ Fans Will Dig It
While you may not be interested in this limited-edition putter, it will check the box for quite a few other collectors. Masters fans, DJ fans, Spider fans and TaylorMade fans will all want to add this putter to their collections. Even if you don’t want to buy one, it is a great reminder of how DJ put on a show last fall at Augusta and it pumps the buzz around how he will fare this spring. If he putts like he did last time, that second green jacket is a near lock.
Don’t forget that TaylorMade also released a whole bunch of other Spiders earlier this month. Be sure to check those out.
