Forum Member Review: Clicgear Model 4.0 Golf Push Cart

The original three-wheeled push cart, Clicgear, has dominated the market for more than 15 years. The Clicgear Model 4.0 is feature-rich with a host of optional attachments, while holding true to the simple yet robust design users have come to know and love. The focus is simple: to provide a durable and functional push cart that makes the walk more enjoyable for golfers. Features of the 4.0 include:

Silicone bag strap system Adjustable upper saddle Lower saddle Quickly folds down to a compact 13″ x 15″ x 24″ Front-wheel engaged hand brake Independent handlebar adjustments Large console (scorecard, ball, pencil and tee holders) Large storage net Four accessory mounts (standard cup holder included) Umbrella mount and bracket Accommodates most stand bags 21-pound heavy-duty frame

Five MyGolfSpy Forum members were selected to put the Clicgear Model 4.0 push cart to the test. Read on to see what our testers found and if this push cart is the one to put on your short list.

Tester Plans and Expectations

Our testers set out to put the Clicgear 4.0 through its paces  and to compare it to their current push carts which represented big names such as Caddytek, Bag Boy and Sun Mountain.

Tester Bucky CC: “I have no doubts the Clicgear can match the Caddytek in a number of areas, but is it worth the extra money?  I purchased mine for $99 back in the day (closer to $150-$200 now) versus the current $300 Clicgear retail price.  Is the Clicgear worth the extra money if you don’t buy any of their numerous optional attachments?”

One thing tester J7Hawkins would be looking at is compactness, saying, “since I play almost daily, my cart and clubs are almost always in the car and I need to be able to fit everything in the back of either of our car’s without too much trouble. The Caddytek I have is not very compact and I have to Tetris everything together in the back to get it to the course. This is especially inconvenient when I am traveling with friends to try new courses across the state.”

Durability was a point of focus for tester dback: “This can only be tested so much during a test run like this but one of my biggest hesitations on getting a different cart has been getting the quality. Clicgear is a known brand, so I anticipate this is something they consider. I’m not going to give it the Dwight Schrute baby stroller test, but I do plan on walking a variety of courses and putting it to the test.”

First Impressions/Unboxing

Testers were understandably excited to get their hands on the Clicgear 4.0. Its compact size when folded was noted by all testers as a highlight. However, the included instructions for unfolding it were not as clear as they thought they could be.

Jbern: “Pulling the push cart out of the box, I was very impressed with the compact folded size, the large wheels, the white/black color and the build quality of the 4.0 … Unfolding this cart for the first time is not extremely intuitive (especially coming from a cart that opens with one button). So having good directions is important.”
Dback: “The instructions are helpful but there is definitely a learning curve to setting it up. It’s not the most intuitive process but I’m sure the more I use it, that it will become second nature. I guess this is the price you pay to get a cart like this to fold up as small as it does.”

On-Course Testing

Now to what really counts when it comes to any push cart: on-course performance. How would the Clicgear 4.0 perform for our testers?

GolfSpy_MPR: “It’s a pleasure to push. The best gear of this sort shows its quality by disappearing. It’s like a good referee or umpire: if he’s doing his job well, you don’t even notice him. If you’re thinking about your push cart during a round, you’re probably not in the mindspace to play your best golf.”

J7Hawkins: “This cart on the course is unbeatable and I mean it. I was concerned about the 3 wheel setup coming from a 4 wheel Caddytek. BUT, I honestly think this is just as stable, if not more stable. The course I play on regularly is very angulated and I have TRIED to get it to be unstable or tip over and it won’t.”

Dback: “Something I did not expect but has been a HUGE quality of life improvement is the angle and height of the bag are perfect to grab a club out as I’m walking up to the ball still. Especially if I’m trying to hustle through a round or someone lets me play through, this is really convenient and gives a nice flow to transition from walking to setting up for my shot.”

Travel/Storage

If you own a smaller vehicle, transporting a golf bag on its own,  let alone a push cart in addition, can prove challenging. This is what makes travel and storage so important. The more compact, the better. In this category, the Clicgear 4.0 checks all the boxes.

jbern: “It’s also very nice to have it fold so compact for trunk space concerns. This pushcart has allowed me to have the Clicgear 4.0, an additional pushcart and 3 full sized stand bags in my trunk and only one bag was stacked.”

J7Hawkins: “In terms of compactness, this cart excels. When folded up, it takes up very little space, allowing me to easily fit it alongside my friend’s cart and our golf bags in the back of the car. No more hassle of rearranging everything like a game of Tetris!”

Closing Thoughts

Overall, the Clicgear 4.0 tested well and received positive comments from our testers. They enjoyed its stability, the compact size when folded and the ease of pushing both up and downhill.

GolfSpy_MPR: “It’s a cart that doesn’t cut corners; when you load up your bag, you’re ready to play golf without having to fight with your cart—or even to think about it again during the round.”

Bucky CC: “The 4.0 is a great push cart that has the ability to become best in class based on the number of add-ons available. Out of the box it is extremely sturdy and ready to hit the course with little to no adjustment needed … I have no major reservations about this cart.”
