The Testing Opportunity
The golfing industry is seeing a lot of smaller apparel companies hit the market. When niche brands such as Malbon and lululemon sign Tour players to sponsorship deals, that adds significantly more interest in this space.
Realgolfers.co is one of those smaller brands working hard at making a big splash. It can be tough for newcomers to break through and separate themselves from the field. In order to do that, they must make high-quality clothing that fits great, feels great, looks great and lasts.
Founded by Henry McGannon, RealGolfers’ mission is to make the best golf shirts accessible and affordable.
“At RealGolfers, we like to limit restocking and prioritize frequent small product releases. This allows us to maintain a fresh and unique selection of designs, ensuring that our golfers always have access to uncommon and distinctive products.”
MyGolfSpy Forum chose four members for this testing opportunity.
The Product For Testing
For this Forum Member Review RealGolfers Apparel sent each tester a hoodie and golf shirt for testing. As they have limited runs, the testers received the latest available product from RealGolfers.
We encouraged our testers to use the products on and off the course ank asked them to provide feedback on several criteria: fit to size, quality of materials, colors and practical use.
What Testers Said: Initial Impressions
Tester No3PuttLaLa: “I was thoroughly impressed with how the product arrived. There was a nice handwritten note from the owner, the product was neatly folded in poly bags with tissue paper, and they included a cool holographic sticker. I think the handwritten note added a nice personalized touch”
His sentiments were shared across all four testers.
More from No3PuttLaLa: “I was happy with the way that the polo and hoodie looked overall from a design standpoint of general shape and sizing… I don’t necessarily enjoy wearing a hoodie over a polo, but if you’re the golfer that would wear a t-shirt under, I think it is a home run.
For the hoodie, I was not too keen on color selection. My favorite color is green, but this was almost like a seafoam color of green.“
RealGolfers Shape And Color
Tester PrismFlopper: “The colorway I was sent was perfect in the shirt with the black on white I LOVE! It’s clean and can be worn with pretty much any of the golf pants and shorts I keep in the closet except maybe a few exceptions.”
“The shape of the shirts, the way they fall on my body is great! I have enough room in the torso section of the shirt and sweatshirt to be able to swing freely without being worried of any bunching material but not so much that I feel like I’m wearing a poncho. The arms are a little looser than I would have preferred them to be, especially considering it’s large and I prefer my shirts to be a little tighter since I get a little over-stimulated for loose clothing. The biggest problem I had is I would typically tuck my shirts in cause I like the look, but with the polo it was just not long enough to tuck it in.”
Another note on the polo from all four testers was that the material seemed to be on the thicker side. While not a deal breaker, when the weather was hot, the heavier material was less ideal. However, that same thickness added to the overall comfort in normal weather conditions.
What Testers Said: On Course
Tester Tchat07: “These are flat-out great golf polos for me! I had no problems out on the course with them. Never punching or pulling, really never even recognized that it was there. I think is the biggest compliment for a polo.”
“The hoodie was great at keeping me warm and the material was comfortable, everything else did not work for me. I could not wear the sleeves down because the cuffs were so thick. I could “feel” them whenever I was gripping my club. Whenever I rolled the sleeves up they were uncomfortable sitting on my forearms.“
Whether this was sizing or swing, he concluded by saying the “build” of the hoodie just didn’t work for him.
Final Results
Testers were asked to grade both pieces of apparel out of 100. Their reviews were good, but not great (72, 78, 80, 85).
Tchat07: “They make great polos. That much can be said! Their price point is $60. Which makes them more expensive than some ($40+ Under Armour) and a lot less expensive than others ($90+ Rhoback). Unfortunately this polo will not help you make any more birdies. But you will at least be comfortable and look good making pars.”
RwsGolf1: “The RealGolfer brand is a very good attempt at providing high quality golf wear at a more reasonable price point.”
Prismflopper: “The hoodie is a great price and isn’t found nearly enough in the golf space. As this company grows and understands some of the issues that were brought up I think they could make a real dent with these big brand name companies. I look forward to seeing how the selection grows and how the prices are affected.”
No3PuttLaLa: “I am not your average sized human. So being able to find good apparel products is not the easiest for me. While the polo had some nice qualities to it, I think the overall build and design justifies the price point for being on the lower end of the market. I think the hoodie is a nicer piece and more unique to the world of golf apparel.”
