Fujikura Adds VENTUS Red and Black to VeloCore+ Shaft Family
If you’re hearing about Fujikura’s VENTUS VeloCore+ lineup for the first time, it’s likely because the first shaft in the updated lineup, the VENTUS Blue VeloCore+, launched relatively quietly during the 2024 PGA Show.
Actually, pretty much every shaft launch is quiet by comparison to, say, RocketBallz 2 or JetSpeed.
I mean that sincerely. Releases were big time back in the day.
Unlike VENTUS TR, which was an extension of the original VENTUS family, VeloCore+ is a replacement for the original. It’s fair to say the new models have some big shoes (or perhaps tip adapters) to fill. It’s not even the slightest stretch to call the original VENTUS the most successful graphite shaft of all time.
Before we get into the particulars, it’s worth noting that Fujikura has made a slight adjustment to the name, emphasizing the use of VeloCore technology. This serves to differentiate the new models from TaylorMade’s VeloCore-less stock offerings while the addition of “+” draws the distinction between this new VENTUS and the original.
About Fujikura’s VeloCore Technology
A quick refresher on VeloCore technology: the name speaks to the idea that VENTUS shafts offer velocity at their core. That comes from the use of premium 70-ton pitch fiber in the bias layer (the part where material is laid at 45 degrees). That’s all well and good but all you really need to know is that it helps make the shaft more stable, which creates less twisting when you miss the center of clubface.
Said simply, VeloCore gives you an MOI boost from the golf shaft.
With the new VeloCore+ versions, you’re still getting all of that but Fujikura says its updated designs provide a bit more ball speed and distance.
The new VENTUS is like the old VENTUS, but faster.
The point of today is that Fujikura has extended the VENTUS VeloCore+ lineup to include the familiar VENTUS Red and VENTUS Black profiles.
The Three VENTUS VeloCore+ Profiles
The performance expectations for the three profiles have not changed much but it’s worth providing a quick overview for the uninitiated.
VENTUS Red
The mid- to high-trajectory profile. It features a firmer butt section with a softer tip. There are few universal truths in fitting world but “Red” should be the one that produces the highest ball flight (and the highest spin rates) for most golfers. Even for golfers who play a different VENTUS in their drivers, Red often works well in the fairway woods.
VENTUS Blue
The mid-launch, mid-spin, mid-everything profile. Like most blue shafts, it’s the one in the middle. The bend profile is tip and butt stiff with a softer mid-section. It should fit the highest percentage of golfers and it’s the safe choice when you absolutely want a VENTUS but definitely aren’t going to get fitted.
VENTUS Black
The low-launch spin killer (aka my precious). VENTUS black features an extremely stiff tip section to provide stability at higher speeds. Keep in mind that swing speed is only part of the equation. If you have a fast tempo and or are particularly aggressive in transition, VENTUS black may be your best option.
Specs, Availability and Pricing
The VENTUS VeloCore+ family is available in a wide variety of weights and flexes, ranging from 52 grams to 94 grams and from R2 up to X-flex.
The full VeloCore+ family is available from Fujikura Charter dealers beginning July 1. Given their comfort level with the originals, fitters are expected to take some time to transition away from current models.
MSRP is $350.
