Golf Pride and Steph Curry Team Up For Limited-Edition Collab
Golf Pride and NBA superstar Steph Curry are teaming up to create an exclusive, limited-edition golf grip set to support Curry’s UNDERRATED youth golf program.
The set includes 14 specially designed MCC Plus4 grips featuring Curry’s interlocking “SC” logo embedded in the grip and UNDERRATED’s three-star insignia. Proceeds will support UNDERRATED’s mission to provide “equity, access and opportunity to student-athletes from every community by balancing participation in the sport to reflect our society.”
Golf Pride is producing only 8,200 individually numbered grip kits, reflecting the NBA’s 82-game schedule. Each kit includes a one-of-a-kind UNDERRATED ball marker and a unique collector’s display preserving one grip as a keepsake. There’s a lower compartment holding the other 13 grips.
Starting today on the Golf Pride website, the kit is on sale now for $249.99.
The Golf Pride X Steph Curry X UNDERRATED Collaboration
You can make a compelling case that no one individual is doing more to grow the game of golf than Steph Curry. The Golden State Warrior sharpshooter is an avid and accomplished golfer and his support for the game goes back to 2019 when he personally funded Howard University’s new Division I men’s and women’s golf teams through 2026.
Three years ago, Curry launched the UNDERRATED Golf Tour, an all-expenses-paid junior tour designed to provide access to those underrepresented in the game.
“Golf is an important part of my life,” says Curry. “Through the UNDERRATED Golf program, we’re helping to ensure that the game can be enjoyed by players of all backgrounds. Golf Pride was instrumental in creating a collaboration that captures what UNDERRATED is all about.”
“Golf doesn’t have the greatest reputation for accessibility and for reaching those who often don’t have the opportunity,” Golf Pride Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer Eric Gibson tells MyGolfSpy. “We’ve been looking for meaningful ways to ensure we’re doing our part to protect the future of the game we love.”
Golf Pride will reinvest a “sizable portion” of the proceeds into the game of golf through UNDERRATED. Funds will go towards scholarship, employment and internship programs. Additionally, revenue will help pay tournament and travel fees for student-athletes competing in the UNDERRATED Golf Tour.
“We didn’t just want to write a check,” he says. “We wanted to do something unique that was authentic to us and that could excite golfers. And we want them to feel as though they’re part of furthering UNDERRATED’s purpose.”
The Kit and the Grip
The grip is a Golf Pride MCC Plus4 and will be available in standard and midsize. The package itself tells Curry’s own UNDERRATED story.
“Not big enough…not fast enough…not good enough…average athleticism,” was how college recruiters described Curry. UNDERRATED’s three-star logo reflects how they felt about Curry. He was at best a three-star recruit, certainly not a five-star.
The grip is an understated gray and black. Curry worked directly with Golf Pride on the unique design.
“Steph wanted to make sure his ‘SC’ logo was prominently displayed so people could share his connection with it,” says Gibson. “UNDERRATED’s three-star logo is the mission and mentality of what we’re seeking. That’s to give those overlooked in the community or overlooked in talent the platform they might not otherwise have.”
UNDERRATED Golf Tour
Curry established UNDERRATED in 2019. Back then, it was a basketball showcase for players who were like him and not scouted by college coaches. In 2022, he launched the UNDERRATED Golf Tour, which features regional events for boys and girls ages 12 to 18. The Tour is competitive, collaborating with the American Junior Golf Association. The top 24 boys and girls earn spots in the season-ending Curry Cup over the Labor Day weekend. Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., is hosting this year’s event.
UNDERRATED also held its first European event last month in London.
“Less than two percent of golfers are people of color,” Curry told Bleacher Report in 2022 when the Tour launched. “This provides a platform for equity, access and opportunity for those who can’t get their big break.”
UNDERRATED Tour sponsors include KMPG, Callaway, Under Armour, the PGA TOUR and PGA of America, Golftec, United Airlines, CDW and Subway.
“I’m very fortunate to be able to use my platform to help ensure that young players from diverse backgrounds will have the access and resources they need to get involved in the incredible game of golf,” says Curry. “UNDERRATED and Golf Pride are committed to this cause and I’m excited to share this collaboration with the world.”
As mentioned, the UNDERRATED x Golf Pride grip set sells for $249.99. Only 8,200 sets are available.
