LPGA Back on Tour

The LPGA Tour is set to return with the Marathon Classic in late July, having shut down tournament operations in mid-February – an even longer break than the PGA Tour.

Since then, we’ve seen a number of players on social media show off their skills and practice drills. We also saw those who lined up to support virtual Women’s Golf Day on June 2. We wanted to go back and recall how the season started for our Northern California alums to get ready for when they do get back to resuming their seasons.

For starters, here’s the rescheduled LPGA Majors lineup:

AIG British Women’s Open: Aug 20-23, Troon Scotland

ANA Inspiration: September 10-13, Rancho Mirage, CA

KPMG Women’s PGA Championship: October 8-11, Newton Square, PA

U.S. Women’s Open: December 7-13, Houston, TX

(Note: The rescheduled Evian Championship in France was recently canceled due to travel concerns)

Here’s what some of the ladies we follow have been up to:

Yealimi Noh – Now 18 and a rookie on the LPGA Tour, she can count two top 10’s already (2nd and T6). She recently appeared in Korea, where she quarantined for two weeks to get some play in on the KLPGA Tour which re-started two months before the LPGA. Good luck to her, we know she’ll be ready when she returns.

Lucy Li – A professional Symetra Tour member at 17. With the new season getting cut short, Li and other rookies will get the benefit of some creative 2020-2021 wraparound season adjustments to give them some more leeway to keep their cards and move up the ranks.

Stanford graduates Andrea Lee and Albane Valenzuela are among the LPGA tour rookies, joining former Cardinal standouts Mariah Stackhouse and Lauren Kim. (And what about the most famous Stanford golf alum Michelle Wie? Baby girl on the way with her Warriors executive husband. We can’t wait for her to return.)

Paula Creamer and Mina Harigae each had two Top 10’s in 2019 and look motivated to get back out there and make the best of 2020. 

And how about Christina Kim? On Tour for 17 years, she has had some ups & downs, but is off to a good start in 2020 with two Top 10’s in four tournaments. Let’s hope that momentum continues to another good year.
