The resurgence of Boston-based New Balance needs to be studied. Over the last three years or so, New Balance has made its way back into the closets of the world’s sneakerheads.
That meteoric rise is thanks, in large part, to the retro of the New Balance 550. But before the popular, chunky shoe took over sneaker shops and college campuses around the globe, it was a relatively unknown, low-top basketball shoe lost in a myriad of NIKE and Reebok sneakers during the 1980s.
Given Malbon’s history with New Balance and their penchant for streetwear, it was only a matter of time before the popular NB 550 made its way to the golf course.
Introducing the Malbon x New Balance 550 Golf: a carbon copy of the popular lifestyle shoe slightly retooled to make it appropriate for the golf course.

Naturally, the NB 550 Golf shoe isn’t for everyone. It won’t be a top performer and most definitely won’t win any awards. That said, the new breed of golfer isn’t too worried about that. As long as the shoe is true to its nostalgiac DNA (which it looks to be), the New Balance 550 Golf will have plenty of fans, including me.
