MyGolfSpy Partners With PuttView to Elevate Putter Testing

“The second I saw PuttView, I knew it would make our putter testing better for millions of golfers,” says Adam Beach, MyGolfSpy Founder and Owner. “It’s the equivalent of when launch monitors first came out. There’s no going back.”

“It’s just better.”

MyGolfSpy is excited to announce a partnership with PuttView, makers of indoor interactive putting greens, to bring the company’s augmented reality technology to our new testing facility. After more than a year of planning, we’re excited to announce the centerpiece of the new 5,000-sqaure-foot MyGolfSpy headquarters: a 35’ x 25’ PuttView putting green.

In designing our new test facility, MyGolfSpy worked with PuttView to create a customized putting green as well as new software tools that will elevate our putter tests.

The addition of a PuttView putting green gives us the capability to test a variety of putt conditions including uphill, downhill and breaking putts from varying distances.

“At the end of the day, we want the best putter testing in the world,” says Beach. “PuttView helps us get there.”

To improve the testing process, PuttView’s engineering team programmed a randomized putting course to better replicate the in-round putting experience during our putter tests.

Powered by a suite of custom software tools developed exclusively for MyGolfSpy, the PuttView system will allow us to capture putting data in a way that we couldn’t before.

“Golfers change putters like their underwear, even tour pros” says Beach.  “We know people are struggling with the putter.”

PuttView will allow us to simplify the process while helping golfers make smarter buying decisions.

ABOUT PUTTVIEW

Based in Germany, PuttView is a leader in golf AR technology. Company founders Lukas Posniak and Christoph Pregizer had the idea to use augmented reality goggles to help golfers visualize putts outdoors. When the technology lagged behind the vision, PuttView took its business indoors but the goal of helping golfers visualize the putting experience remained the same.

PuttView works by using mounted projectors (in our case, overhead) to project lines and contours onto a putting green. While conceived as a practice tool, we thought the technology could be easily adapted for our testing environment.

Today, PuttView’s innovative lineup of putting solutions includes the Home Series, Professional Series, as well as fully custom solutions like the green installed at the new MyGolfSpy testing facility.

PuttView products are used by some of world’s best golfers including Bryson DeChambeau, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose. They’re used by renowned putting instructor Phil Kenyon when training his elite clientele.

“We like to work with the best in the game,” says Christoph Pregizer, Managing Director at PuttView. “MyGolfSpy has proven time and time again that they are the best in testing everything that matters to the player. Their high standards when it comes to testing, data analysis and deriving the right conclusions for its readers aligns very well with PuttView’s premium standard.

“It’s a quite obvious match and we are looking forward to working together closely on future putter tests.”

About MyGolfSpy Putter Testing

MyGolfSpy has been testing putters for more than a decade. In that time, we’ve steadily increased the number of models we test annually as well as the number of testers who participate. The addition of PuttView technology will allow us, for the first time, to significantly increase the amount of data collected during the tests.

Expanding our testing arsenal with PuttView is, quite simply, the most significant step forward in putter testing since we started in 2013.

“With the integration of PuttView, our putter testing will be exponentially more valuable to the golfer,” says Phillip Bishop, MyGolfSpy’s Director of Hard Goods Testing. “In addition to straight puts, we can now include several data points from uphill, downhill, and breaking putts.

“One of the most exciting insights will be visualizing proximity to the hole which will enable us to show how a putter performs – left, right, short and long across the entire test.

“PuttView is changing our tests for the better and I cannot wait to showcase it.”

For the first time, we’ll be able to effortlessly and accurately capture a wealth of data including:

Launch speed and direction Dispersion Proximity to the hole Percentage of putts holed Strokes Gained

To make things as simple as possible and present results in a way golfers can easily understand, we worked with PuttView to develop a putting handicap metric to make it even easier for golfers to identify the best-performing putters.

The wealth of data collected by the PuttView system will allow us to better understand miss patterns and the contribution of variables like toe hang, alignment aids and eye dominance to putter performance.

“Our putter test was the best in the industry,” says Beach. “The problem was that we knew it helped determine which putter was the best and that some were better than others but we were still left with a lot of questions.

“With the data coming from PuttView, there’s less guessing and more knowing about why some putters are better and for whom who they’re better.”

What’s To Come

While our first Most Wanted Tests powered by PuttView won’t happen until early 2025, you can expect to see smaller tests and other content pieces as we begin to fully realize the power of our PuttView putting green and the data it gives us.

The sky is the limit.
