Sometimes I swear we are living in a simulation. Right after receiving the email about the new Odyssey Red Seven X, I watched Xander Schauffele sink a 60-foot putt at the Masters.
It’s like whoever is controlling the narrative of my life wanted me to pay extra attention to this putter.
As we move officially into the 2025 golf season, Odyssey wants you to be able to putt like Schauffele, or at least play the same putter.
Red, milled, AI-free
Bucking the current Odyssey design trend, Red Seven X is also insert free. This putter is 100-percent milled from stainless steel. The 360-gram head features the double-diamond face milling that was the norm when the Toulon boys were still with Odyssey.
The lack of an insert also clues in the observant as to what else is missing: artificial intelligence. The Red Seven X is milled by machines but designed by people. Considering that the current line of Odyssey Milled putters have AI-designed inserts, the lack of insert really separates the Red Seven X from its Odyssey kin.
The Red Seven X fits a niche
The Red Seven X adds to Odyssey’s fitting breadth. If you can’t quite find what you need in the Square 2 Square or Ai-ONE models, this is an option.
The second reason could just be that Xander Schauffele is a likable personality and Odyssey knows his fans will buy his putter. The only downside could be that the $429.99 price tag could put it out of reach for some Schauffele fans.
That said, if you fit into either one of those categories, you’ll likely welcome the release of the Red Seven X. If you don’t, Odyssey is happy to have you check out their other bountiful 2025 offerings.
