Pour One Out for NIKE’s Air Zoom Infinity Tour NRG
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Brooks Koepka is pulling up to a major championship in style.
While I’m not ready to bet the farm on Koepka winning the PGA Championship, his special NIKE footwear have claimed the top spot on my Mount Rushmore of major gear.
With Tiger’s swift departure, Koepka is the closet thing that NIKE has to a poster child. It’s not officially his signature shoe but the Air Zoom Infinity Tour is made for Koepka, just like the Air Zoom Victory is made for Rory.
Let’s take a closer look at the unofficial, official, Brooks Koepka NIKE shoe for the PGA Championship.
About the Air Zoom Infinity Tour NRG
New for this year, the Air Zoom Infinity Tour doesn’t reinvent the wheel. At first glance, it’s pretty similar to last year’s model. Non-removeable spikes, visible Air units … you get the idea. But the tech specs do suggest upgrades have been made.
Starting with those glorious Air units. They’ve increased in volume for better comfort and more energy return. Air is one of those cushion systems that feels better with more force and adding more volume should ensure they don’t collapse under the immense pressures of the golf swing.
While these Air units are generally encapsulated (or caged), this one was left uncaged to allow for more compression, more flex and, thus, more energy return.
For those who aren’t down the NIKE cushion rabbit hole like myself, I’ll sum it up this way: the forefoot cushion should provide energy return and step-in comfort.
Bringing up the rear, the NIKE Air Zoom Infinity Tour features a lightweight foam throughout the midsole and into the heel for even more comfort. In previous iterations, this has generally been NIKE’s REACT foam. Though it isn’t specified, my guess is that it’s still REACT.
Made for Valhalla
Here’s a quick pointer for NIKE stuff: When NIKE adds the “NRG” tag, it means it’s a special release. This NIKE Air Zoom Infinity Tour NRG is made for the PGA Championship, inspired by Kentucky bourbon and classic wooden golf clubs.
I love storytelling so I absolutely love this shoe. From the woodgrain insole to the custom wooden hang tag, this shoe is just flat-out cool.
Did I mention the wooden hang tag? I love small little details like that.
The hues of brown, orange and copper set this pair apart from the host of other PGA Championship-themed gear and I’m here for it.
You can pick up this special pair now at NIKE.
