Set Up with a Solid Foundation

1. Foot Position

  • Width: Feet should be shoulder-width apart or slightly narrower—enough to stay stable without restricting motion.

  • Alignment: Toes square to the target line helps keep everything neutral.

2. Ball Position

  • Place the ball just forward of center in your stance.

  • This promotes upward contact, helping the ball roll smoothly off the face (not bounce or skid).

3. Eye Line

  • Your eyes should be directly over or just inside the ball.

  • Check this by dropping a ball from your eye—it should land on or just inside your target line.

4. Hand & Arm Position

  • Arms hang naturally from your shoulders—no tension.

  • Hands should be under your shoulders or slightly ahead of the ball.

  • Wrists stay quiet—let your shoulders control the stroke.

5. Grip Pressure

  • Keep your grip light and relaxed. Tension in your hands creates inconsistency.

  • A 4 out of 10 on the grip pressure scale is a good place to start.

6. Putter Alignment

  • The putter face must be square to your intended line at address.

  • Use the line on your ball or putter to help align the face accurately.

7. Posture

  • Slight bend in the knees

  • Back flat, tilt from the hips—not hunched over

  • Keep your head steady throughout the stroke
