Spy Kicks: The Best Golf Shoes at the FedEx St. Jude Championship
The Best Golf Shoes at the FedEx St. Jude Championship
Some of the world’s best golfers came out to play last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and their shoe game was just as good as their scoring. Like a crescendo into the grand finale, some players are upping their golf shoe game as the season heads to the ultimate finish. More eyeballs, more media. If you’re one of the top 125, this is your chance to show out.
The theme for this week? Fun colors. It’s no coincidence that an event supporting St. Jude hospitals has given us some of the most whimsical colorways of the year!
Xander Schauffele in Custom Gold Medal adidas TOUR360 22
After his Olympic victory, Xander Schauffele threw around the idea of using his gold medal as a ball marker to razz his opponents. Perhaps for similar reasons, Schauffele has been wearing custom adidas TOUR360 22 made to commemorate his Olympic gold in Japan.
You’ve got to have some extreme confidence to pull off golf shoes this bold. But the shoe itself isn’t even the best part. Schauffele gifted a pair to Riley, a five-year-old patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The only way to get your hands on a pair of the special-edition adidas TOUR360 22 is through a global giveaway. Those looking for a chance to win can enter through the adidas app. The giveaway will run Aug. 10-31.
Tony Finau in the “Copa” Air Jordan 1 Low G
What did I tell you about fun colorways? Recent back-to-back winner Tony Finau ditched his usual white and black golf shoes for a minty fresh variant of the Air Jordan 1 Low G, and they are stunning. The pastel green/teal colors are giving me throwback Memphis Grizzlies vibes.
Colors like this don’t get the same love that the OG colorways do but I’m still a huge fan. There comes a point where you have to stop listening to what everyone else thinks and just do you. Such is the case with golf shoes, especially bold colors like we see on the “Copa'”Air Jordan 1 Low G. Wear what you like!
If you’re a big fan of this colorway, you can pick them up now. With limited golf shoes, the best “ability” is “availability” so, if you’re in the market for pair you’d better act fast. If Finau wins again, I have a funny feeling this color is going to garner a lot more attention.
Rory McIlroy in Soothing Lavender-Colored NIKE Air Zoom Victory Tour 2
Nice try, Rory, but you can’t fool us. There’s only one reason someone would break out lavender-colored golf shoes for a big tournament. Lavender is said to have calming properties and I’m here to say that Rory busted out this new colorway of the NIKE Air Zoom Victory Tour 2 for that exact reason.
OK, OK … There’s not much validity behind my accusation but I’m still impressed with yet another fun new colorway of a shoe that we’ve seen a lot of this year. Just like Finau, McIlroy opted to go the more whimsical route with his footwear choice for this week and I’m here for it. Pair those sweet shoes up with the matching lavender NIKE polo and the fit is absolutely on point!
Do you have the confidence to pull off a golf shoe like this? Didn’t think so. Argue all you want but Rory is just that much cooler than you. Those of you armchair golfers who think Tour pros should stick to boring colors probably also think you can beat any LPGA player. Spoiler alert: YOU CAN’T.

Justin Thomas in Custom FootJoy St. Jude Premiere Tarlow
One of the best things that FootJoy does each year is their St. Jude collection. This year, children from around the world helped design the shoes that the FootJoy staffers on Tour are wearing this week. Justin Thomas has been wearing the FootJoy Premiere Tarlow which is lovingly covered in the drawings and sketches from the children of St. Jude’s.
How can you not love these golf shoes? For us, golf shoes are just … shoes. But for the children of St. Jude, these shoes mean so much more and that’s what makes them so special.

Sam Burns in Cuater THE RINGER Golf Shoes
I’ve had my eye on Sam Burns for a few weeks and finally decided it was time to give him his props. I’m guessing a lot of you haven’t heard of Cuater? I didn’t know what it was until last year, probably due to their lack of presence on Tour. However, now that Sam Burns and Jon Rahm are rocking Cuater golf shoes, it’s time to give them some love.
The model Sam Burns has been wearing is called THE RINGER. This is Cuater’s second-tier spiked offering (just below THE LEGEND and, man, are they clean. Despite the handsome looks, THE RINGER’s performance isn’t quite up to par with some of the industry standards, scoring the second lowest out of all spiked shoes in our 2021 testing.
Does Burns care about what we have to say? Fifteen million in career earnings is all you need to know there. Regardless, this is a model I’d love to get my hands on!
Wrapping Up
