The New KYOEI Triple Weight (Non-Conforming) Wedge
The latest Triple Weight Wedge from KYOEI GOLF is a significant upgrade. It refines all the best aspects of the original to produce its most enthusiast-friendly wedge yet.
Starting at the billet level, KYOEI Golf, from the source supplier in Kobe, Japan, has incorporated one key chemical element and a micro-alloy as the first step in material enhancement. Few brands take this step, relying on factories to supply their billets. A new era for the brand has begun thanks to KYOEI’s long-standing history in the industry and its close relationship and proximity to Japanese steel suppliers.
At the other end of production, KYOEI revised the composition of its Chrome application process. By reducing the hardness of the chrome layer to make it less brittle and adding a layer of nickel to absorb some of the harsher rigidity in vibrations, the tactile feedback becomes soft and pure.
The polishing process has also been improved. KYOEI tested nearly every type of polishing compound and wheel available in Japan. They keep the recipe a secret because their new chrome satin nickel finish is stunning.
The Triple Weight Refined – What’s New and Improved:
Non-Conforming Grooves: Ultra-wide and deep grooves with sharper edges for maximum spin and control.
Wet Weather Bead Blast: Non-coated bead blast finish designed for enhanced spin in moist conditions.
Advanced Forging Process: This process incorporates elements like boron and copper to refine the grain structure, delivering improved durability and a softer, more responsive feel at impact.
Enhanced Polish: A new finish that combines chrome mirror and brushed satin, offering a luxurious look with reduced glare while maintaining luster.
Full Swing Sole Grind: The 48* and 52* feature a redesigned sole promoting straighter and more accurate dispersion.
The weight screws are now in satin polished silver. The milling lines on the sole have been removed, and overall, most of its predecessor’s hard edges have now been gently curved. The top blade is no longer bead-blasted but has a modern yet classic appearance.
Adjustability is implemented solely so the club maker can dial in the proper swing weight vs. length without using lead tape. KYOEI does not claim any performance benefit from the screws.
As usual, you can expect a high-quality black DLC finish. I suggest pairing these with one of their premium upgrade ferrules and some blue-colored rings for a sharp, custom look.
When it comes to build specs, always ensure you know your proper lie, length, swing weight, and grip size, and choose the right shaft for your game. Don’t leave a fitting without those specs in hand—you’re selling yourself short if you do. ALWAYS consider the bend profile, weight, flex, and who the shaft is designed for. Remember, the best results come when you play the softest and lightest shaft you can consistently control. Best of luck!
