This Training Tool is Great for Shifting Weight in the Golf Swing

Weight shift is always a hot topic In the world of golf instruction. It’s gotten even more attention lately with new technology to measure ground forces and weight transfer. There’s no question that transferring weight at the right time and utilizing the ground will add power and efficiency. We tested the Power Shift Board to see how it can be implemented in your routine for game improvement.

What We Tried: Power Shift Board

The Power Shift Board is a training aid designed to provide feedback regarding the weight shift throughout the golf swing. The Power Shift Board is for all skill levels and can help with swing sequence and timing.

Who Tried It:

Britt Olizarowicz. MyGolfSpy writer and scratch golfer. I’ve worked a lot on ground forces and weight shifts in the last few years. I was excited to try the Power Shift Board and see if it gives that correct feeling through impact.

What Is The Power Shift Board?

The Power Shift Board is a training aid that you stand on while taking swings. The main purpose is to take advantage of the board’s instant noise feedback. This occurs when weight is transferred to the lead leg.

It’s not a high-tech device. You simply hear a “click” when you’ve transferred your weight to your lead side.

For best results, this happens as you approach impact. The Power Shift Board has ground spikes that stabilize and balance it during use.

Testing and Results

I tested the Power Shift Board on a mat and on the turf. At first, I was concerned that it would slide on the mats but the ground spikes kept it in place quite well. The board is stable and although you need to push for that perfect weight shift, you won’t feel like you’re going to fall off.

When you start with the Power Shift Board, it’s best not to hit golf balls. Swing while standing on it and get a feel for what it takes to create that clicking noise as you swing.

Once you get used to that feeling, try some wedge shots while standing on the board. If you transfer your weight correctly, you’ll get a cleaner strike, the Power Shift Board will click and you may see slightly higher ball flight.

Overall Impressions

Power Shift Board is designed to give instant feedback to improve weight distribution and shift during the swing.

It does that.

In addition to my testing, I had some other golfers (handicaps ranging from 10 to 30) try it on the driving range. Everyone’s first impression was that they could easily feel what the proper weight shift is through impact.

The only real negative I found was the noise. The click was quiet. I had to struggle to hear it. I thought maybe this was relative to the size of the golfer but, when we tested that, that wasn’t the case.

With the importance of that signal in perfecting your swing sequence and weight distribution, it should be louder.

Overall, I like practicing with the Power Shift. I sometimes use it as a warm-up tool to get my lower body moving and ready to turn before a round.

Who Is This For?

All golfers need a powerful and accurate swing sequence. However, the players who will really benefit from the Power Shift Board are those who finish their swings on their trail leg.

If you lean backward and watch your golf shots from your trail foot, you’ll like what the Power Shift Board can do for your game.

Learning to hit shots with most of your weight transferred to the lead leg at impact is a true game changer.

In addition, the Power Shift Board offers a unique way to work on increasing your swing speed, especially through the turning of your lower body. So, if you could benefit from a few more yards, try the Power Shift Board.

Final Thoughts and Tips

Stability, balance, better ground connection and proper timing of the weight shift are all good things to work on in your golf game. If you are looking for a simple yet effective training aid that retails for $124.99, you’ll get a lot out of the Power Shift Board. Hopefully, you have a quiet place to practice as you’ll struggle to hear that clicking noise when you first use the tool.
