Fast Facts about the Toulon Design Sea Island Small Batch Putter
Named after the world-famous golf destination Sea Island in Georgia. The Toulon Design Sea Island features “Rolex” 904L steel and 6061 aluminum construction. Available Nov.16 at ToulonGolf.com with a MSRP of $1,800.Pack your bags. We are heading to Georgia for some golf. No, I didn’t finagle us a tee time at Augusta. Instead, we are heading to Georgia’s Golden Islands to experience the amazing golf found on Sea Island.
Actually, we are not going anywhere today. Our bosses would probably be unenthusiastic about us ditching work anyway. That said, how about we take a daydream vacation to Sea Island?
I’ve booked us the perfect golf guru for our meditative adventure. Sean Toulon is one of golf’s heavy hitters. He’s going to guide us through all of the golf Sea Island has to offer.
OK, so that’s a bit of stretchy truth. Mr. Toulon was thinking about Sea Island when he designed the new Toulon Golf Small Batch putter. We are going to check out the putter and, by doing so, explore the essence of Sea Island.
Why Sea Island?
As a West Coast guy, I don’t know much about Sea Island. I seem to remember world leaders meeting there during the G.W. Bush tenure but that’s about the extent of my knowledge. Obviously, I needed to do a little digging to see why Toulon Golf would name this putter Sea Island.
Never has a simple Google search evoked so much jealousy. The golf on Sea Island, and the Golden Isles as a whole, looks amazing! So many courses packed into one location. It’s not quite Bandon Dunes in terms of courses per square mile but it’s still impressive. The November weather is quite nice as well.
Key Elements of The Toulon Sea Island Small Batch
Enough of the coastal Georgia golf travelog. Let’s check out the Toulon Golf Small Batch Sea Island putter.
Those of you familiar with Toulon putters likely recognize the Sea Island as a fresh take on the Palm Beach head shape. Think of the Sea Island as a larger Palm Beach. To my eye, the Sea Island looks like a Palm Beach that was allowed to grow to maturity.
The curves of the back bumpers finish at the edges where those of the Palm Beach were a bit pruned. Overall, the Sea Island is beefier and more symmetrical than the Palm Beach.
The Sea Island has Serious Sole (Plate)
The Toulon Palm Beach was a fairly hefty mid-mallet, tipping the scale with a head weight of 360 grams. Not wanting this larger mallet to weigh over 400 grams, Toulon removed the Sea Island’s central sole steel and covered the hole with a aluminum sole plate. The plate on the Sea Island is much larger than the one on the Palm Beach.
Not only does this steel removal and aluminum replacement scheme reduce the overall weight of the head to 355 grams but it also influences the weight distribution in the head. Look at that: A putter that is unapologetically artistic also contains a bit of MOI boost to help you putt better.
Realistically, if you are looking for a putter with technology to help you play better, save $1,500 and check out the new Odyssey Ai-ONE putters. I mention the improved MOI of the Sea Island just to point out that though these are high-end collectibles, they are still functional.
Yes, It’s Made of Rolex Steel
Just like the Toulon Design Small Batch Dogwood putter, the Sea Island’s steel component is milled from 904L stainless steel. That’s high-end watch, aka Rolex, steel.
Not only does 904L stainless steel make your puter uber-fancy but it also has more nickel and copper than typical stainless steel to better fight corrosion. You’ll appreciate that added resilience when the putter hangs on the wall in your Sea Island beach house (or maybe when you use it on the course).

Town and Country Magazine describes Sea Island as “a playground for the uber wealthy.” In that context, the Toulon Golf Small Batch Sea Island is perfectly named. This is a putter for people with deep pockets who like to play golf.
At $1,800, very few of us can impulsively purchase one of these after a bad round of putting like we do with other putters in our local shop. Everyone knows putters only have so many made putts in them and that, as such, frequent replacement is necessary.
I tip my cap to the golfer who has the means to grab a Sea Island, especially if they intend to rub the putter on the grass. Toulon Small Batch putters are like high-end super cars. They are cool to look at and some people actually own and drive them. Undoubtedly, some of these Sea Island putters will experience some laps around the track as well.

FAQ: Toulon Design Small Batch Sea Island Putter
How many Small Batch Sea Island putters have been made?
There will only be 75 Sea Island putters available worldwide.
How expensive is it to play golf on Sea Island?
If you have to ask … Actually, I was surprised that the rates are not super high at the Sea Island courses. Seasonal rates vary but overall they are very reasonable compared to other golf destinations I’ve been to in California and Las Vegas.
If I wanted to experience golf in the Golden Isles on a budget, I’d probably head to Jekyll Island where the rates are similar to my local NorCal muni course. Yes, my home course is overpriced.
Is there really a market for $1,800 putters?
Being that all of the previous Small Batch putters have sold out, I’m fairly comfortable saying that there is a market for these.
Are the Small Batch putters a good investment?
Filling your investment portfolio with expensive putters seems risky. I don’t know if these will go up or down in value. A quick check of eBay has them holding around the $2,000 mark. Some a little lower, some a little higher. Get a high-yield savings account instead if that is your sole purchasing motivation.
