Vokey WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W

Vokey WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W

It’s early April, which explains why there’s an abundance of limited edition golf gear to celebrate the season’s first major. What differentiates this offering from most everything else is that, while the other stuff is designed to celebrate Augusta National, the Vokey WedgeWorks Limited Editon 64W is designed to help golfers play Augusta National.

A WedgeWorks Tradition

If you’ve kept up with WedgeWorks over the years, you know that the launch of a high loft, low bounce wedge is standard WedgeWorks practice ahead of the Masters. That said, it’s not every year we’re treated to this combination of high loft and low bounce.

The WedgeWorks 64W is roughly 6 degrees stronger than your average kitchen spatula with the same stated bounce as a T Grind.

If nothing else, it sounds like it could be a hell of a lot of fun.

About the Vokey WedgeWorks 64W

Even those of you well-versed in Vokey grinds may not be familiar with the W Grind given that it’s not in the retail lineup.

Described as having a medium-width sole with slight camber, you can think of the W as a less aggressive Low bounce K Grind (Vokey’s widest sole low bounce offering). Relative to the K, the W Grind’s sole is narrower and there’s a bit less camber.

I won’t say it’s exclusively for square face shots, but I don’t think many will be fanning it open with regularity.

I mean, it’s already 64 degrees.

“This wedge is ideal for the player with quick hands who likes to see the ball elevate quickly or the fearless player who isn’t afraid to attack any pin,” says Bob Vokey.

“Players that are so good at shallowing out their technique can simply allow this mid-width sole with loft to do all the work when under the pressure of elevated pin locations.”

The 64W was developed in response to TOUR players looking for a low bounce option that was fast through the turf but still had some skid and slide at the bottom.

“It’s a really cool option to have when the conditions call for it,” says Vokey Wedge Rep, Aaron Dill.

Speaking from experience, I can tell you it’s also an option for the guy unafraid of firing bladed lasers over the green towards the parking lot and uncomfortably close to Aaron Dill’s car.

Just sayin’.

In reality, the WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W is unlikely to be an everyday wedge, but for fast courses with greens or bunkers that require more loft, the 64 W Grind can prove useful.

Is a 64-degree Wedge Right for You?

Look, I’m willing to be there’s some ShotScope or Arccos data that suggests bagging a 64-degree wedge isn’t the best idea, but I’ve had a 64 or two in the bag over the years and I’m sure as hell not going to let “data” stop me from giving the WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W a go – even if I do so with the knowledge that for average golfers, the rewards of a 64-degree wedge are unlikely to justify the risk.

Whatever. Sometimes guys just wanna have fun.
