WE TRIED IT: Alphard CB Sidekick REVIEW

Alphard Club Booster V2 introduces the CB Sidekick Follows you from behind or the side Available for pre-order

If you don’t know anything about Alphard Club Booster V2 , you need to read this article. Trust me!

Back in 2018, we discovered the Alphard’s Club Booster V2 and it made us stop in our tracks and listen. I can assure you we get a lot of product coming through MyGolfSpy’s doors and this was one which stood out.

Electric trolleys weren’t as common in the U.S. then as they are now but, due in large part to COVID-19, people walk the course a lot more while playing golf. So you could say Alphard was ahead of the time within the golf industry.

But what is it and why do you need to pay attention? Well, it might save you money.

Alphard Club Booster V2

The Alphard Club Booster hit the market in 2018 with their 18 hole golf caddy. It was designed to attach to different makes of pushcarts to transform a manual push cart into an electric trolley. The Club Booster was upgraded to the Club Booster V2 in 2018, providing six-axis gyroscope technology, an electronic parking brake, wheelie bars to prevent tipping and a lithium-ion battery good for 27 holes.

Alphard progressed even more recently, introducing their tether follow system. Was it perfect? No, but it was a step in the right direction.

The Alphard CB Sidekick

Alphard Golf introduced their hands-free, follow-mode cart technology with the CB Sidekick. Unlike some follow-behind caddies, the CB Sidekick allows the cart to be on your left or right when walking down the fairway. Or, in my case, the rough. It’s about as close as you’re going to get to actually having your very own human caddie.

The cool thing about the CB Sidekick is you can take it off follow mode and use it as a normal remote control. The Alphard Club Booster CB Sidekick remote can set your cart on cruise control 30 yards down the fairway and stop without doing it manually.

How Did the Alphard CB Sidekick Perform?

I was lucky enough to test out the Alphard CB Sidekick based on a “prototype” unit. They assured me that it will be very close to the retail version.

My conclusion?

Order it! Order it now!

I don’t say this often but the CB Sidekick is the real deal. If you’re a push cart user, and enjoy walking, you should strongly consider this upgrade.

What I like about the Alphard CB Sidekick is the price and performance.

Let’s start with performance. Once you get past the Bluetooth sync session, it’s clear sailing.

For the best performance when following from behind, you need to clip the remote to your back pocket. From there, the CB Sidekick tracks your every step from just eight feet away. It does take a second or two to catch up to your pace but once it does, it follows you like Stage 5 clinger.

When you have the Sidekick following you from either side, stays a reasonable distance away so you don’t think it’s going to run you over. If you get bored of the cart following you, you can change it back to remote-control mode and direct it to your preference.

Now for the most important part: Price.

If you pre-order the Alphard CB Sidekick now, it’s $299. It will be $399 in 2023. So if you’ve already got the Club Booster V2 to attach to your push cart, the CB Sidekick is the way to go. If you don’t have either product, Alphard is running a promotion to own the V2 (delivered in seven days) and CB Sidekick (arrive early 2023) for $999. This will only be feasible if you have a compatible push cart for the golf course.

When looking at comparing a follow+remote electric cart, you’re looking at $1,999.99 for the cheapest. So if you bought the Club Booster V2, CB Sidekick and a standard compatible push cart like the Rovic RV1s, you’re looking at $1,300 maximum.  This is a deal that’s hard to beat, in my opinion.

How Do I Get My Hands on This?

Honestly, I will write a check, give my credit card or cash right now for this electric caddy. That’s how impressed I am with this product.
