WE TRIED IT: FW22 Fleece Collection Review
There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.
What We Tried
The new adidas fall/winter 2022 collection: the adidas FW22 Fleece Collection.
Your Apparel Tester
Hi, I’m Harry and I am a professional golf apparel tester. (Yes, they exist.) I actually test a lot of things at MyGolfSpy and play professionally when I’m not checking and comparing specs on shoes, gloves, rangefinders, bags, ball retrievers, etc.
You can call me the Director of Soft Goods Testing here at MGS. You can also just call me Harry. That’s fine, too.
What’s New in the Lineup
It’s not unusual to receive a press release on new product releases from OEMs throughout the year but adidas took it to the next level. They invited some select golf media to put their new FW22 Fleece Collection to the test in Whistler, British Columbia.
Their goal?
To test out their new line in that crisp, cold mountain air.
We got to test every piece of adidas’s golf apparel, right down to the shoes. The new FW22 Fleece Collection consists of fleece-lined pants, recycled material polos, quarter-zip pullover and much, much more.
What are the Themes?
adidas have a new thought process on their FW22 Fleece Collection. Why have one set of clothes for the golf course and another for off it? adidas designed their new golf clothing to be used on and off the course for ultimate comfort and style.
Another theme which adidas have held true to is by making their products out of recycled materials. I can hear you saying, “Wouldn’t that feel really stiff and itchy?” I was skeptical regarding the feel, too, they feel silky smooth.
The final theme is their layering philosophy. adidas claim their fleece anorak quarter-zip pullover, additional quarter-zip pullovers and hoodie vests have COLD.DRY technology to provide lightweight warmth and a DWR finish to help resist moisture. Their layering also has a four-way stretch to promote mobility in the swing.
FW22 Fleece Collection – My Favorite Pieces
After testing everything out, I have two pieces that I love.
The first piece is the Chore Coat Jacket. You could say it’s a cross between a jacket or a flannel but whatever it is, it’s warm and cozy. It has front pockets for balls and tees, snap-button and fold-down collar detailing, and elastic sleeve binding to keep everything tight when you swing. I wore this on the course and it didn’t interfere with my swing which was a huge plus.
Another positive was the comfort level. Picture a onesie feeling but having that feeling while on the course. This is what the Chore Coat Jacket gave me. Would I wear this more off the course? Yes. However, I would wear it on the course, no problem.
My second favorite piece is the DWR Block Quarter-Zip. You get the best of both worlds with this cheeky monkey. It will keep you warm in the cold and dry in drizzly conditions. This is stretchy enough to move with your swing while not bunch up over a putt. Super comfortable, no itchy or stiff material—it’s just a good-performing product. It comes in white/crew navy, clear brown or pulse blue.
Extra Consideration Items
adidas have released an array of pant options to fit all occasions. For cold conditions. they have the COLD.RDY JOGGER golf pants for that casual look in crew navy and black. The GO-TO COMMUTER PANT is a looser fit with elastic cuffs for a stylish look. This comes in hemp, crew navy and black. adidas also has their STATEMENT FROST GUARD PANT for light rain in crew navy.
Realistically, whatever conditions you play in or even for everyday use, adidas has you covered.
Final Thoughts on the FW22 Fleece Collection
I think adidas has done a great job at making a collection for the masses while catering to their style on and off the course.
Depending on whether you like the casual look or something a little smarter, adidas has both options. I know. They’re spoiling you. Once you realize how comfortable they are, you might just buy their whole line. As a bonus, if you join their adiclub, you get unlimited free shipping on all orders.
