Why We Love This Augusta-Themed Vessel Season Opener Collection

Why We Love This Augusta-Themed Vessel Season Opener Collection

Of all the Equinoxes, the Vernal Equinox is my favorite because it means Spring is officially here.

It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter, little darlings, and looky-loo, here comes the sun. It’s time for all that snow, wind and cold to go the hell back to where it came from. We’re pretty much good until the Autumnal Equinox, my least favorite Equinox, shows its face in late September.

It’s also time for the inevitable onslaught of Majors-related limited edition merchandise from anyone even remotely connected to the golf industry. Since it’s almost April, we start with stuff related to the tiny hamlet of Augusta, Georgia, and that tournament that can only be named through officially licensed channels.

Hint: It rhymes with “blasters.”

Pretty much anything you can think of will either be adorned with azaleas or get the familiar green-yellow-white color scheme. Most of it’s cheesy, but a precious few qualify as pretty classy.

The Vessel Season Opener Collection is pretty classy.

What is the Vessel Season Opener Collection?

Simply put, the Vessel Season Opener Collection is a study in green, yellow and white. With apologies to Green Bay Packers fans, this time of year those colors belong to Augusta and its annual homage to April. Vessel puts it in more marketing-friendly terms, saying it’s “a celebration of golf’s rich tradition and the excitement of a new season.”

Vessel hits a home run here due its simplicity. The Season Opener Collection is simple, clean and mostly green. There’s enough white to make the green stand out and just enough yellow to tie it all together. It is also, thankfully, azalea-free. Azaleas would have ruined it.

Vessel, like everyone else not directly associated with the tournament itself, can’t use the M-word in association with any product, promotion or marketing initiative. The powers that be get mighty cranky if you do.

Vessel Season Opener Prime 2.0 staff bag

Vessel has been making staff bags for tour pros for the better part of a decade. Owner Ronnie Shaw would attend LPGA events during his fledgling company’s early days and ask Tour pros a simple question: Can I make you a staff bag? The rest, as they say, is history.

The Vessel Prime 2.0 staff bag has more than enough room to carry everything you might need during a round of golf, along with several things you probably don’t need. It features 11 external pockets, including a magnetic rangefinder pocket with velour lining, two large garment compartments, two large belly pockets and a quick-access magnetic pocket. There are also five additional interior pockets and compartments.

It’s made from Tour-grade synthetic leather with water-resistant zippers and a six-way velour top with two full-length dividers. Like any staff bag, it’s a load, weighing in at over 10 pounds.

The Season Opener edition features a green and white body with yellow zipper accents. It retails for $599.

Vessel Season Opener Lux Pro cart bag

Again, this is Vessel’s standard Lux Pro cart bag in a limited edition green, white and yellow suit of clothes. It features a 15-way top with full-length dividers and a large putter well. It also has a cart strap pass-through, dual side pockets, four forward-facing pockets (including an insulated cooler pocket) and even dual pen slots (yes, they think of everything).

The Lux Pro carries the same Season Opener color scheme as the staff bag. It sells for $499.

Vessel Season Opener Player V Pro stand bag

The Player V Pro is Vessel’s signature stand bag and was named Best Premium stand bag in this year’s MyGolfSpy testing. The Season Opener style is available in either 7-way or 14-way tops with Vessel’s unique Internal Base Divider, which keeps clubs from jamming when the legs are deployed.

As with other Vessel bags, the Player V Pro is loaded with pockets, both magnetic and zippered. It also includes two patented Vessel features. The Rotator Stand System is a wide, low-profile base that provides extra stability, while the Equilibrium 2.0 Double Strap provides self-adjusting balance, making it feel lighter than its eight-pound weight.

Again, it features the same Season Opener color scheme. It also sells for $499.
