You Need This Custom Golf Shoe Bag

You Need This Custom Golf Shoe Bag

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

I made a custom MacKenzie shoe bag. MacKenzie makes fine golf goods including an awesome bespoke program that lets you design your own golf bag, head cover, shoe bag and more. Let’s break the ice before we go much further; designing a custom shoe bag with MacKenzie is not cheap. So, if you’re looking to save some cash or you’d rather throw your kicks in a Walmart grocery bag and call it good — this review isn’t for you. Honestly, you’re better suited for this nifty deals article (we all love a good bargain, don’t we?)

On the flipside if you value your golf shoes like they’re your own child, then swaddling them in a supple, soft shoe bag is all but worth the premium price tag. Sound like you? Let’s keep going, friend!

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. I also believe that shoe bags are criminally underrated. We’re talking Steph Curry at Davidson underrated. Let him (it) cook!

What You Should Know About MacKenzie’s Custom Program

Start from scratch or choose from a selection of suggested designs Four base material choices include leather ($300) waxed canvas ($185), treated canvas ($185) and nylon ($145) Full range of color choices, accent colors and more Add your initials, name or logo

Why do I need a Golf Shoe Bag?

I know what you’re thinking. Who uses a golf shoe bag?

The simple answer? You should.

Golf shoes, like your golf clubs, are an integral part of your golf equipment toolbox. You wouldn’t let your clubs become worn out or damaged, would you? There’s a reason you use head covers on your clubs (spare me from your iron head cover discourse, please).

Think of your golf shoes like a tire. If the tread starts to become worn, you’re going to see a performance drop-off. A golf shoe bag aims to protect your precious kicks from being tossed around in the trunk. Keeping your golf shoes in good condition is a surefire way to keep your feet connected to the ground.

That, in short, is why you need a golf shoe bag. Other than that, a premium golf shoe bag like the one I designed with MacKenzie Golf is just darned cool. If you want to look like an absolute baller, roll up to your next scramble with one of these. There are only two possible outcomes: you shoot a course record or you get the cart girl’s phone number.

Okay, I’m only joking. But, a premium shoe bag from MacKenzie is much, much cooler than using iron covers. Not even the Prodigal Son could come back from the heinous crime that is neoprene iron covers.

Too far? I digress. In a world full of useful and not-so useful golf accessories, a golf shoe bag should be high up on your must-try list.

The Design Process

MacKenzie makes designing your custom golf shoe bag very simple. Their intuitive user interface provides a clear picture of exactly what your custom creation will look like when it shows up at your door. Here’s a quick rundown of the customization process available to you:

First, select your body. I went with the waxed canvas in olive. Next, choose your handle and accent colors. Then add vertical or diagonal stripes in the color of your choice (this is an upcharge). Finally, personalize your custom golf shoe bag with your name, initials or logo.

Once complete, please allow MacKenzie about a month to hand-make your custom golf shoe bag in Beaverton, Ore.

Room for Improvement

Before I get into the tantalizing results, there are a few things to mention. First and foremost, the inside of the shoe bag will get dirty. Unless you’re meticulous with cleaning out your spikes, dirt and debris will adhere itself to the fluffy fleece lining. A darker colored interior here may have been more suited for a golf shoe.

I would also like the addition of a side pocket (or an interior pocket) for a little bit of storage. Keeping some extra spikes on hand or even a spare set of shoelaces would make this shoe bag that much more functional.

The Final Results

Isn’t she beautiful? Man, am I impressed with the quality. The waxed canvas is a phenomenal material and the fluffy fleece lining is sure to keep your prized shoes protected. If you gave me a blanket made of this lining I’d never get out of bed (sorry, Adam. This is why I don’t work from home).

Everything about my custom shoe bag from MacKenzie screams “premium.” From the first stitch to the last, it’s easy to tell they take pride in their craftsmanship. Don’t believe me? Just give it a sniff. Real materials smell like real materials. Period. No cheap synthetics here.

In the end, the best compliment I can pay to MacKenzie is this: Like a Subway sandwich, if you don’t like your custom bag, it’s your own dang fault. You designed it, after all. In a world where we’re too often told “no”, MacKenzie is here to answer your custom requests with an emphatic “yes!” That, is something worth celebrating.

You can customize your very own premium golf shoe bag now.
