Amazon Finds: GripCaddie

Performance comes from every aspect of the golf club. That includes the grip, an often overlooked or underappreciated part of the golf club. Grips are the connection point between golfers and the club so they play a significant role in performance, shot to shot and round to round. Making sure the grips are taken care of allows them to stay at  peak performance for longer.

The Problem

There are few worse feelings than grabbing a grimy grip when standing over an important shot. Most golfers don’t replace their grips often enough or even clean them regularly. As a result, the dirt, sweat and oils affect the performance benefits the grips should provide.

The Solution

The GripCaddie is a specialized grip cleaner with a water/soap cartridge along with a special scrubbing section specific for cleaning grips quickly and effectively. While not extensively reviewed on Amazon, it does have a 4.8/5 star rating from 15 reviews.

How It Works? (Or Doesn’t)

The GripCaddie looks pretty fancy but, at the same time, it’s simple. Does it work? Will it help increase the lifespan of your grips? To spoil the ending…  it does. The quality of components is really good and I was surprised how a fairly basic and inexpensive item could feel so premium.

In the handle of the GripCaddie is a container for plain water or soapy water. Closer to the neck is a switch that opens or closes the flow of liquid to the bristle-filled head. The C-shaped bristled head allows for complete cleaning of the grip around all sides. Overall, this is a really well thought-out piece of equipment.

Practicality

I clean my grips at least once per week, sometimes after each round. The GripCaddie has sped up the process and does a much better job of cleaning my grips than the traditional soapy water and towel method.

The bristles are firm and give a good scrub between the indentations. The soap releases the grease and oils that get transferred from your hands onto the grip. What it doesn’t manage to do is remove the soapy water so a towel is still required to complete the job. That is only a minor inconvenience as the grips feel like new for the next round.

It is also worth noting that because the bristles are firm, the user should hold the GripCaddie close to or at the neck so it doesn’t slip or feel too difficult to use.

I have seen very little, if any, wear and tear on the unit. The longevity and durability of the GripCaddie seems impressive as I have used this on more than 100 grips without any noticeable wear other than a slight, and I only mean slight, loosening of the bristles.

Could It Be Better?

I think there are a few things that could make this product a little better. How about a loop or attachment piece to hang it up for storage? I normally clean one grip at a time so having to pick the GripCaddie up and put it down all the time is a bit annoying. Having a hook or loop to attach it to a bag would be much more convenient.

The other minor suggestion is varied bristle heights. If the bristles were of varying heights, it would allow them to work better on various styles and sizes of grips. It might also clean them better and faster.

Bottom Line

Having clean grips is a performance benefit that cannot be understated. Too many grips get worn out or ruined because they are not looked after properly and collect dirt and oils that ruin the rubber and shorten their lifespan.

GripCaddie is a simple, effective tool to clean your grips in a flash. While golfers will still need a towel or rag to wipe the grips off afterward, the GripCaddie does an excellent job of giving grips a deep clean.

Using the GripCaddie will help extend the life of your grips, keep the performance levels high and aid you in shooting better scores. This is definitely an item that is high on my recommendation list for every golfer.
