Testers Wanted: Fujikura Ventus Driver Shafts

Testers Wanted!

The Fujikura VENTUS driver shafts have taken the golfing world by storm since their introduction. Now Fujikura is looking to take another step forward with the new VENTUS Blue launched this year. Claiming to be more stable and consistent with tighter dispersion and increased ball speeds than its predecessor, the new Fujikura VENTUS shaft, powered by VELOCORE technology, has a lot to live up to.

About The Fujikura VENTUS

A premium driver shaft that has made its way into the bags of many tour professionals and amateurs, the Fujikura Ventus with VELOCORE has become a go-to golf shaft since its introduction in 2018. In 2024, Fujikura released a new VENTUS Blue version with VELOCORE+ technology and advanced materials to improve on what was already a very popular choice. A key change in the 2024 version is a simplified bend profile with a re-engineered multi-material bias core claiming to improve stability for more consistent strikes. Additionally, the new VELOCORE+ claims to enhance feel and the overall performance of this high-end driver shaft.

What Is Being Tested

We are looking for four golfers to test, review, and keep one of the 2024 Fujikura VENTUS Blue driver shafts. Then we want to know how they perform in the hands of real-world golfers, how they compare to the current driver shafts they are using, and, of course, if they help you hit more fairways. We want our selected testers to evaluate the new VENTUS Blue on the course and on launch monitors for a full breakdown with data that can help golfers make better and more informed purchasing decisions.

Are you the perfect tester for the Fujikura VENTUS driver shaft?

Ball Lab: 2024 Titleist AVX

MyGolfSpy Ball Lab is where we quantify the manufacturing quality and consistency of golf balls. Ball lab does not infer durability or guarantee your performance. Today, we’re reviewing the 2024 Titleist AVX.To learn more about our test process, click here.

About the 2024 Titleist AVX

The Titleist AVX is into its fourth generation since its introduction in 2018. During that time, MyGolfSpy staff report that the AVX “has developed a loyal following, becoming a staple of the Titleist lineup.”

For 2024, the ball has been completely re-engineered from core to cover. Jeremy Stone, VP of Marketing for Titleist, says, “This includes a reformulated core, casing layer, and a new softer urethane cover. This reformulation produces longer distance and more short game spin compared to the prior generation AVX. For many golfers, it also feels softer, primarily due to the softer cover.”

While we have yet to test the AVX during our robot Ball Test, Stone says it is characterized as “low flight, low spin relative to Pro V1 or Pro V1x or Pro V1x Left Dash.”  Furthermore, “it is an important note that when we reference Low Spin in this case, we are comparing to other premium, urethane offerings. So compared to Pro V1, the spin is lower.

“But compared to many other golf balls in our product line-up, it has more spin due to the overall construction and, in 2024, a softer urethane cover than the prior AVX model. The variables that create “Launch” are the golfer and the club. The golf ball aerodynamics and spin then influence the flight and overall peak height of a golf ball trajectory.”

Testers Wanted: Takomo Long Game Golf Clubs

Testers Wanted!

Many direct-to-consumer brands are praised for their irons and the value they can bring to those looking to spend a little less while still getting a high-performance product. The long-game clubs, on the other hand, are often overlooked. So this is why we want to see where the Takomo golf clubs stack up.

About Takomo

A Finnish company, Takomo, has made splashes by signing golf influencers recently, significantly boosting their profile. They are a direct-to-consumer brand that offers a variety of golf clubs at competitive prices. In 2023, our Forum members praised their iron series for their performance, adding that their simplistic but generally pleasing aesthetic appeals to many golfers. Since then, Takomo has ventured into the long-game clubs, releasing UDIs (ultimate driving irons), hybrids, fairways and drivers, all with similar claims of being able to compete with the best of the best.

What Is Being Tested

We are looking for four golfers to test, review and keep their choice of two Takomo UDIs and fairways.

Ultimately we want to know how these golf clubs perform and how they stack up against others with significantly higher retail prices. We want the selected testers to review the on-course performance. Get data on how they compare to the clubs currently in their bag. Finally tell us if these will make their bag long-term.

How to Hit Good Iron Shots

Hitting good iron shots in golf requires a combination of proper technique, consistency, and mental focus. Here are some tips to help you improve your iron play:

  1. Setup: Start with a proper setup by aligning your body parallel to the target line. Position the golf ball in the center of your stance, or slightly ahead of center for shorter irons, and distribute your weight evenly on both feet.

  2. Grip: Hold the club with a relaxed grip, allowing your hands to feel connected to the club without excessive tension. Make sure your grip pressure is consistent throughout the swing.

  3. Posture: Maintain a balanced and athletic posture with your spine straight and your knees slightly flexed. Keep your upper body tilted slightly forward from the hips, and maintain a natural spine angle throughout the swing.

  4. Swing Plane: Swing the club along the proper swing plane to promote consistent ball striking and accuracy. For iron shots, the club should travel on a slightly descending path through impact, striking the ball before making contact with the ground.
