Focus on Short Game

Focusing on the short game is crucial for lowering your golf scores and improving overall performance. The short game includes all shots made from within 100 yards of the green, and it often makes the biggest impact on your score. Here are some key tips for improving your short game:

1. Chipping

  • Club Selection: Choose the right club based on the lie and distance. Use a pitching wedge, gap wedge, or sand wedge depending on how much roll-out you need.
  • Setup: Position the ball slightly back in your stance with your weight favoring your front foot. Keep your hands ahead of the ball and maintain a steady posture.
  • Swing: Use a pendulum-like motion with your arms and shoulders. Avoid excessive wrist action to ensure a consistent strike.

2. Pitching

  • Swing Technique: For pitch shots, focus on a smooth, controlled swing with a higher follow-through. Aim for a consistent contact with the ball to achieve a desirable height and distance.
  • Ball Position: Position the ball in the middle of your stance with a slight weight shift to your front foot.
  • Follow-Through: Your follow-through should be longer for higher shots. Practice different trajectories by adjusting your swing length.

3. Putting

  • Grip and Stance: Use a comfortable grip and stance that allows for a smooth, straight stroke. Your eyes should be over the ball, and your weight should be evenly distributed.
  • Read the Green: Assess the slope and speed of the green. Use this information to determine the break and the distance of your putt.
  • Stroke Mechanics: Focus on a consistent, pendulum-like stroke. Keep your wrists firm and your eyes on the ball throughout the stroke.

4. Bunker Play

  • Setup: Open the clubface and position the ball slightly forward in your stance. Lean slightly into your front foot to create a solid base.
  • Swing: Use a full swing with a slightly open stance to ensure you make contact with the sand before the ball. Aim to splash the sand out, carrying the ball to the target.
  • Practice: Regular practice from various bunker lies will help you become more comfortable with different sand conditions and shot types.

5. Green Reading

  • Visualize: Before putting, visualize the path your ball needs to take based on the green’s slope and speed.
  • Practice Reading: Practice reading greens by studying their contours and slopes during rounds. Learn to identify subtle breaks and adjust your aim accordingly.

6. Distance Control

  • Feel and Practice: Develop a sense of distance control through practice. Use drills that involve hitting to various targets and distances to build muscle memory.
  • Take Note: Pay attention to how different clubs and swings affect distance and adjust your technique based on what works best for you.

7. Consistent Practice

  • Drills: Incorporate short game drills into your practice routine, such as chipping from different lies, putting with varying breaks, and pitching from different distances.
  • Simulate Course Conditions: Practice short game shots in conditions that simulate real course situations to improve your ability to handle different challenges.

8. Focus on Technique and Fundamentals

  • Routine: Develop a pre-shot routine to ensure consistency in your approach. This includes alignment, setup, and execution.
  • Feedback: Use feedback from practice and on-course play to refine your technique and address any areas of weakness.

By honing these skills, you can significantly improve your short game, which can lead to better scores and a more enjoyable golf experience.

Bettinardi Collaborates with Hasbro for a Second Monopoly Release

Bettinardi is collaborating with Hasbro for a second Monopoly-themed release. The release will be spread out over four days with different putters, head covers and other Monopoly/Bettinardi collab gear.Releases begin Aug. 26 at Bettinardi.com

Bettinardi just announced their second Monopoly-themed release in collaboration with toymaker Hasbro. Over the course of four days next week, Bettinardi will be releasing Monopoly-inspired golf items.

By the way, how amazing is that orange In Jail fairway wood cover? Taking the cover off my 3W does often result in a trip to a hole’s penal area.

Putters, pitch tools and Park Place

In terms of the scope of the Monopoly release, Bettinardi is keeping things close to their “community chest” this time. They’ve told us to expect to see putters, wedges, irons, head covers and other golf accessories displaying iconic Monopoly imagery.

From the teaser photos, it looks like the products will cover a wide range of Monopoly themes including the return of the popular Monopoly money covers in various denominations.

I fully expect to see a Get Out of Jail Free wedge.

Deep Dive: Callaway Apex Ai Irons

Callaway’s new Apex Ai lineup has landed at retail and while you might be curious, we know it’s not always easy to know which model is right for you.

Look, I’m always going to tell you that your best chance at making the right decision is to get fitted but since that isn’t always possible (and some of you just don’t want to), we decided to build on our First Look piece in the hope of helping you find the right Apex.

Let’s start with the easy way.

Are you an Apex player?

The Apex Ai (and Ti Fusion) family is the first time Callaway has leveraged an Ai Smart Face in an Apex design.

Your refresher, as the name overtly suggests, Callaway has leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) to design an iron face to achieve a specific objective more efficiently than it could with human intelligence alone. (While the rest of the world uses AI for short, Callaway persists with Ai in their brand names.)

Scrambles Have Been Ruined By Cheaters

I need to preface this with multiple disclaimers.

Any form of golf is a positive. Any form of golf alongside family and friends is positive.

And if we’re all coming together to play in a tournament where the primary objective is to raise money for charity while having some fun along the way, that is even more of a positive.

What I’m about to describe is a first-world problem inception. It’s a first-world problem nesting doll, and I’m doubtful there is any real “solution” to the “problem” I have. The fact I’m complaining about it is ridiculous.

Even so, I have to say it:

adidas x JAY3LLE Unveils Bold Women’s Collection at St. Andrews

Some steps in women’s golf fashion have been small. We’ve seen shifts in cut, fit, or color options. However, the world of women’s golf fashion is about to take a bold leap forward with the debut of the adidas x JAY3LLE collection at the AIG Women’s Open. This capsule is a collaboration between Adidas and the luxury fashion label JAY3LLE. The goal of the release is to empower women to express themselves boldly on the course, and as you’ll see, this line pushes the boundaries of traditional golf attire.

A Collaboration Redefining Women’s Golf Fashion

adidas, a global leader in sportswear, has teamed up with JAY3LLE, a luxury fashion label, to create a groundbreaking capsule collection that redefines women’s golf fashion.

JAY3ELLE is co-founded by designer Johan Lindeberg and his daughter, Blue.

This collaboration with Adidas aims to offer a fresh approach to women’s golf apparel.

The goal is to provide high-performance sportswear with high fashion. Johan Lindeberg said, “This capsule speaks to the energy and inclusive community that’s steadily growing in the sport and especially amongst women, which is why focusing on womenswear for this collection was so important.” The timing of the release is certainly no coincidence. The collection’s debut at St. Andrews highlights the intersection of the tradition and the future of the sport.
