Aging Golfers tend to slow down their swing and that can lead to more missed shots. (1) A slower wrist release for your heavier driver tends to create more shots that fade or slice. (2) Your irons are lighter, but your hip release gets out of sync with your swing and that results in more topped balls or miss-hits. If you are experiencing these two problems, I have some wonderful news for you.
Realizing what my aging body was slowing down, with a driver swing speed at about 80 mph, I decided to experiment by setting up for my driver and my irons to compensate for my slower swing. Yes, I decided to “Cheat” my swing so that I am now saving about 10 strokes per round. My golfing buddies are amazed at my game. Last week while playing in the Men’s Golf Association, I won the top prize money at $211 by winning my flight in Best of 2 Ball, a Closest to the Hole on a Par 3 and 2 Skins.
Of course, I am calling my new swing setup “Cheating” but I am really setting up with a slight modification to compensate for my AGING LAZY BODY. It’s not really cheating but I wanted to get your attention with this blog.
“Cheating” Setup for your Driver
I am definitely losing power in my arms and wrists, so I tend to hit more fades or when I try to swing faster I get more slices than distance. I know that I am getting more distance when I shallow my down swing at the top (with my flat wrist) but that is only making my fade or slice even worse. My solution is to setup with an open stance, with my leading foot back a few inches from my target line. [My swing from the inside to out is like throwing an underhand softball pitch with the wrist releasing close to my hip.]
Surprisingly, after my first 6 to 9 holes when my body is really loosened up, I minimize my open stance for my drive to avoid pulling my drives. Our bodies tend to loosen up as we play so it is up to you to sort out how much of an open stance your need for your drives as your game progresses.

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

The putter you build will be your interpretation of the MySpider GT.
Nobody ever said they needed to be buddies, and even in their late Tour years, despite appearances, they were not really close. Respect grudgingly grew between them. Appreciation for each other’s accomplishments undoubted came into focus more as they grew older. But when they were younger? No chance. Both were striving for the same things, and Woods became known as someone who was not going to let his rivals get too close. BOB HARIG from Tiger & Phil

Tom Brady is back ... on the links? On Tuesday, Brady launched his performance and tech focused golf collection for which he continues working with college athletes.
Direct-to-consumer brand OnCore Golf has announced the 2022 ELIXR, the second generation of its most popular urethane-covered offering. I’m not suggesting the ELIXR is a market leader but it is a golf ball that a lot of you like and some of you love. Pressed to explain why, my guess is that it’s because the original ELIXR brings a lot of balance to the table.
The OnCore ELIXR isn’t the softest ball on the market but it’s soft enough to appeal to feel-driven golfers—at least those shopping the urethane category. With compression a bit below 80, the ELIXR isn’t the fastest ball on the market but average swing speed golfers won’t pay much of a penalty. It’s not the lowest spinning off the driver but it can offer some straight flight benefits without giving up too much around the green.
Finally, and this is no little thing, at less than $30 a dozen, the ELIXR is $20 a dozen less than most premium offerings. All of that and with the original coming out of the Foremost factory in Taiwan, quality and consistency were pretty good too.
Arccos has released Gen3+ sensors.A smaller and lighter putter sensor is included.Retail price is $199.99 including a year of Arccos tracking.
The headline is that Arccos Gen3+ sensors have been announced. As you’ll see, the new Gen3+ sensors offer a couple of compelling enhancements but the more exciting piece of the story may be the app updates that correspond with the new sensor launch.
The updates to the Arccos Gen3+ sensor hardware are straightforward. The primary sensors are the same size as the Gen3 version but Arccos says battery life has been improved. I like that.
A more appreciable difference is found with the P3 putter sensor which is 40-percent smaller and 20-percent lighter than the previous version.
If you’ve used Arccos at all, you’re probably aware that the standard sensors fit relatively unobtrusively on most grips. I play Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 midsize grips. With the larger grip and the flat butt cap, I’ve never had any issue. I believe the same is true for most other grips, including standard size.

This is a fairly straightforward drill that will activate the trail side in the downswing and reduce any “tipping” tendency that might get the clubhead stuck behind the golfer. If you struggle with thins, and fats in tandem with blocks and hooks, then this is one for you to try.
A few points to note:
This drill works nicely with a 7 or 8 iron struck off a low tee.
Keep the stance fairly narrow and drop the trail foot back about a foot inside where you’d normally place it.
Rehearse and then rehearse again. Remember that as you practice this you’re trying to make technical changes, so go slowly and get it right….every time!
Allen has never beaten Brady on the football field. Maybe he'll have better luck on the golf course.
Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen were named as competitors in this year's version of Capital One's The Match, a 12-hole golf exhibition that will take place on June 1 in Las Vegas.
The sixth version of The Match is back featuring four of the NFL’s very best but minus Phil Mickelson or Fivesport as tournament partners.
Mickelson played the first four editions then served as a broadcaster in 2021. Fivesport was a co-partner in the event with Excel.

The most comprehensive driver test of 2022.
If your swing speed is between 90 and 105 mph, this article is for you. These are the best drivers for mid swing speeds. Read on to discover what our extensive testing has revealed before you even consider buying a new driver.
For our 2022 driver test, 35 golfers tested 38 different driver models over more than 400 individual sessions. Data was collected using Foresight GCQuad Launch monitors. To minimize variables, all testers hit Titleist Pro V1 golf balls. Outliers were removed and data was aggregated before scores were calculated.
For 2022 (and beyond), Most Wanted testing will use a 100-point scoring system.
Jordan Spieth won the RBC Heritage in a playoff for his 13th PGA Tour title and second straight on Easter Sunday after taking the Valero Texas Open a year ago.
Neither of these instances are particularly relatable to the average golfer. Nonetheless they’re unusual ones and if you had money on these players.
Nick Piastowski documents the bizarre scene involving Harold Varner in the 2022 RBC Heritage Classic second round. Varner contends that his ball was moved by a resident who picked up his ball from the original position to identify it and placed it out of bounds. The person denied this and the official agreed with the off-course spectator, though announcers on PGA Tour Live thought the man’s movements were questionable at the time.
“Without a doubt,” Varner said. “The biggest thing for me that I could sleep on is that there was out of bounds right of the creek, and the TV said it’s in the creek. There’s a golf ball right there. I’m not going to be naive and be like my ball couldn’t go there. So I did the right thing, and I said, hey, can you see if that’s my ball? At the time, we couldn’t find a bridge to get across the creek.
“It’s great. I won’t stop talking about it until I talk to Coxy. At some point, the players should have — if I wouldn’t have been there and didn’t see the guy move the ball, I don’t — cool, I’ll go back to the tee. But I’m looking there, and I’m like that’s not right. The rules are there to protect the players, I thought.”
When reached for comment by GOLF.com, a PGA Tour spokesman said, “Stephen is not going to comment on it until he has a chance to talk to Harold about it.”
