When we conduct the MyGolfSpy Most Wanted Driver test each year, the price of the club is not one of the ranking categories. The performance takes the cake and then you can work out whether or not the driver fits your budget. However, we do understand the importance of value in golf equipment. If you have been waiting for one of the top drivers of 2022 to start dropping in price, now is the time.
The Mizuno ST-Z 220 is now 33 percent off. The ST-Z 220 ranked first for overall forgiveness in 2022 and had solid feedback for feel and overall design.
The Mizuno ST-Z 220 features a few new technologies that helped it gain some of its forgiveness. The club features a forged SAT2041 Beta-Ti Face. The high strength and resiliency promote higher ball speed and greater durability of the club head.
In addition, Cortech technology is incorporated into the clubface of the ST-Z 220. Cortech creates different layers of thickness, resulting in more forgiveness low on the face. The low-on-the-face miss is quite common for amateur golfers so companies like Mizuno are always looking for solutions.
With four degrees of loft adjustability, this driver should work for the just about any handicap level. The Z-Axis design uses a combination of carbon composite in different areas on the club head to make it a bit more biased towards a straight flight. This is not a draw-biased driver but instead designed to go straight, which it does.
Successful touring professionals don’t really have to watch their budget when it comes to the equipment and training aids they purchase. But we do. More than 100 tour pros using a tool priced less than $100 certainly deserved a bit of investigation. The DownUnder Board 2.0 training aid claims to teach you what a professional golf swing feels like.
Whether or not you will gain a tour-level golf swing for less than $100 is up for debate but some good concepts in this DownUnder Board 2.0 are worth checking out.
At first glance, the DownUnder Board looks like an adjustable tabletop or computer workspace but it’s a golf training aid designed to work on things like stance, posture, transition, impact and even finish. The DownUnder Board 2.0 works with everything from your pitching wedge to the driver. It is used by more than 100 touring professionals including Brendon Todd, Harold Varner II, Robert Allenby, Luke Donald and Christina Kim.
PGA TOUR coach Bradley Hughes designed the concept and that certainly helped him to get some tour presence early on in the process. He still offers videos with each DownUnder Board 2.0 purchase so that you can learn his tricks of the trade.
The board’s purpose is to help golfers learn about ground forces in their swing from setup to backswing, transition and, ultimately, the finish. We know that weight needs to be transferred but where is that weight in your golf swing and how are you directing the forces?
Golf shoes are regularly priced between $150 and $350. If you are on a budget but need a new pair of golf shoes, we have you covered with this list of the five best golf shoes under $100. When the price of golf shoes drops below $100, expect to give up a few features but some of these top choices scored well on our 2022 Most Wanted Spikeless and 2022 Most Wanted Spiked golf shoe tests. Here are three spikeless and two spiked models that will leave you comfortable, stable and with a few more dollars to your name.
To ensure that we looked at all the best golf shoes in the game, we pulled the results of two MyGolfSpy Most Wanted tests which included 69 pairs of shoes between the spiked and the spikeless models combined. The Skechers Go Golf Max 2 Golf Shoes were the highest-ranked shoe below that $100 mark.
The Skechers GO GOLF Max 2 golf shoes got a total ranking of 92/100 this year with solid ratings in both comfort and elements. The GO GOLF Max 2 is podiatrist certified for arch support. This is probably how the shoe scores so high in comfort. However, when it comes to stability and traction, the Skechers GO GOLF Max 2 were in the middle of the pack.
One features is removable insoles that reduce shock and make the shoe comfortable. Weight dispersion is also increased with the insole in place. The shoes themselves are considered ultralightweight and this is a spikeless model.
All Skechers GO GOLF Max 2 golf shoes have a one-year waterproof protection warranty. The design is pretty basic but if you care about your feet and want a shoe that doesn’t hurt, the GO GOLF Max 2 has a lot to offer.
LIV Golf announced Wednesday that it would play events in Mexico, Singapore and Spain in 2023, on top of a previously announced event in Australia.
MyGolfSpy Ball Lab is where we quantify the quality and consistency of golf balls. Today, we’re reviewing the 2022 Titleist Tour Soft. To learn more about our test process, click here.
The Titleist Tour Soft fits in what’s generally referred to as the “premium ionomer” category. With prices typically between $30-$35, it’s a category that exists by and large for preference-driven golfers. Most often, we’re talking about golfers who want soft feel and don’t want to spend a premium price but still want a name-brand product.
The Titleist Tour Soft is three-piece ionomer-covered ball with 346 dimples.
The Tour Soft is manufactured at Titleist’s Ball Plant 2 (urethane balls are produced in Ball Plant 3).
Talking to the media ahead of the Hero World Challenge, Woods touched on a number of topics facing his career and the future of professional men's golf.
Tiger Woods, who "can't walk" because of plantar fasciitis and is not playing this week, said he had two more wreck-related surgeries in 2022.
There is a lot of cool gear in the golf world that doesn’t always fit into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.
FootJoy Tour Alpha Dual BOA — the dual-BOA version of FootJoy’s 2022 Most Wanted-winning flagship golf shoe. We covered the single BOA version earlier this year but I’d be lying if I said the dual version wasn’t the one I’ve been most excited to review.
Tony Covey. Self-described BOA-enthusiast with slightly wide feet who really wants to know if two BOA dials are better than one. In case you didn’t know, laces are for suckers.
(Editor’s Note: In case you’re wondering, BOA is a patented system that replace traditional shoe laces with either steel wires or BOA’s TX4 Dyneema fiber connected to a knob. Turning the dial tightens or loosens the wires to ensure a proper fit.)
Tiger Woods has withdrawn from this week's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot, he announced on Twitter on Monday.
Rory McIlroy says he believes he gave Tiger Woods COVID-19 ahead of The Open.

Less than one percent of us achieve a “scratch golfer” status. Statistically speaking, most of us are average because, well, that’s how averages work.
Yet, regardless of skill level, handicap or potential, we’re bound by this insatiable desire to improve.
So just how different is your game compared to scratch golfers?
We combed the Shot Scope database to see what, if any, answers it could provide.
If there’s a single metric that tends to closely trace handicap, it’s likely “greens in regulation.” Picture the best player at your course. My hunch is that he or she is probably one of the better ball-strikers as well.
Water hazards are among the best and most thrilling of natural strategy, and sometimes artificial water hazards are well conceived. Like everything else, such trouble should not be overdone. As noted before, diversity, and yet again, variety, is the spice of a golf course. GEORGE THOMAS
Want to test the new PuttOUT Devil Ball training aid?
Welcome to Testers Wanted where we recruit readers like you for objective feedback on products that roll into HQ throughout the year!
The PuttOUT Devil Ball is unlike any other golf ball. On second thought, scratch that. It isn’t a golf ball (or at least not by traditional definition). The Devil Ball has a unique design where one side of the ball has a straight edge. PuttOUT even puts a disclaimer on the packaging: “Devil Ball has been created as a putting training aid and should not be used with any other golf club!” You’ve been warned.
The purpose of the Devil Ball is simple: to provide feedback on your putter’s face angle at impact.
Because data-driven objective testing is what we do, we need some of you to assess and report back to us at MyGolfSpy.
Dan Bradbury completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Joburg Open on Sunday to win his first European tour title at Houghton Golf Club.
Cameron Smith has won his third Australian PGA Championship by three shots after lightning strikes stopped play at Royal Queensland Golf Club.
Tiger Woods and his 13-year-old son, Charlie, are returning to the PNC Championship with hopes of doing one better than last year.
