Forum Member Review: AutoFlex Dream 7 Shafts

Golfers are always on the lookout for equipment that promises to enhance their game and the AutoFlex Dream 7 driver shaft has generated considerable buzz. This Forum Member review summarizes the experiences of multiple testers, providing an insightful guide to help you decide if this innovative (and expensive) shaft deserves a place in your bag.

The Testing Opportunity

MyGolfSpy Forum members were given the unique opportunity to test the AutoFlex Dream 7 driver shaft, a product that has been making waves in the golfing community. Known for its Korean Hidden Technology (KHT), the AutoFlex Dream 7 claims to offer unparalleled flexibility and control, adapting to a wide range of swing speeds and styles. This testing aimed to provide a thorough, real-world evaluation of the shaft’s performance, drawing from the on-course and launch monitor performance our eight testers experienced.

This Forum member review of the AutoFlex Dream 7 driver shafts highlighted several key aspects appreciated by testers. The shafts were praised for their unique “Korea Hidden Technology,” which combines high-quality carbon fiber and proprietary materials, offering a lightweight and flexible design that claims to improve distance and accuracy. Testers noted an initial adjustment period due to the shaft’s unusual flexibility but once acclimated, many reported significant improvements in their drives with less effort. The AutoFlex Dream7 shafts provided a higher ball flight and reduced dispersion, leading to longer and generally straighter shots. Some testers mentioned a learning curve, with early rounds showing inconsistent results, but subsequent use resulted in a noticeable performance boost for most.

That said, at the end of testing, some had mixed feelings about whether to keep the AutoFlex Dream 7 shafts as their new gamers. Some, like KC Golf and chisag, reported fantastic numbers and decided to continue using the AutoFlex shafts, appreciating the significant improvements in distance and control. Others, such as Jean D, felt the shaft never felt entirely natural despite extensive testing and chose to revert to their previous setups or explore alternative options. Overall, the AutoFlex Dream7 shafts demonstrated impressive potential but personal preference played a significant role in their long-term adoption.

Two Pros with Opposite Swing Recommendations

Today I received 2 blogs from amazing golf instructors who made opposite recommendations for your backswing and both claimed that you will get longer drives. As it turned out, they both may be correct, but I will bet that more Weekend Warriors will benefit more from a limited backswing than a longer, faster backswing.

Hank Haney recommends that you will hit your drives longer if you take a longer, faster backswing (even with a bent leading elbow) and a faster downswing. His logic is that your longer backswing will allow you to make a faster downswing. You will gain 2.5 yards for every mile per hour of impact speed. This fact has been proven under test lab conditions with “Iron Byron”, an electronic driver testing machine.

Danny Maude’s blog helped a student gain about 40 yards by limiting his straight leading arm backswing and generating a square clubface hit on the ball for a huge gain in yardage by eliminating a banana slice. The slice was killing his distance. The limited backswing allowed his student to control his drive directly up his target line for a lot more distance.

Golf365 used this image of Jon Rahm to illustrate power and CONTROL with a limited back swing.

The problem with a longer faster backswing and downswing is that mid to high handicap golfers who try to swing faster will inevitably swing across the ball causing a horrible slice and send more balls into never-never-land. You will find that you can hit more balls in the fairway and longer than your normal attempts if you swing with a flat wrist, straight arm and a limited backswing (at about 1/3rd of a John Daly swing.)

As your confidence improves you will gain a lot more distance as you increase rotation of your hips and shoulders in your backswing. Then you can increase the speed of your backswing to build in wrist lag at the top and catapult your clubhead in the downswing to add even more speed AND DISTANCE ( as recommended by Hank Haney).

This Club is a Cheat Code

As the self-proclaimed worst golfer at MyGolfSpy, when I say that a certain club is making the game easier, you should listen up.

If something works for someone as bad as me, it’ll probably do wonders for you.

That’s a little facetious but you get the point. I want to make the game easier and I found a club that absolutely fits the bill.

The Ultimate Bunker Club

Recently, I switched into the Vokey SM10 wedges. It’s my first time ever playing Vokeys. Not knowing a whole lot about wedge grinds, I went through Vokey’s Wedge Selector Tool to determine the correct gapping and grinds for my game.

It was suggested that I go with a 60 degree K-grind lob wedge. The rest, as they say, is history.

Is Good Good Apparel Any Good?

Good Good, golf’s most popular “boy band”, exploded onto the scene a few years ago with their fun, relatable YouTube videos. And while I enjoy the friendly banter and sometimes mediocre golf (a few of them can really play), the one thing that’s always intrigued me is their business model.

Sure, the group makes money on Youtube … but they really built their brand by selling merch.

We’ve seen this business model a hundred times over. Barstool is probably the most biggest example. Create content, gain a following and push that following to buy your merch.

Good Good is no different. Even after signing a deal with Callaway, Good Good continues to sling their own merch. This had me curious. How good can it really be?

Very rarely do I go to the golf course without seeing a Good Good hat or two. Heck, FSU’s Luke Clanton, who made a remarkable run at the Rocket Mortgage, was wearing a Good Good polo.

Do These Three Things to Make More Four Foot Putts

Do you make all of your four-foot putts? The four-foot putt can be nerve-wracking, especially when it counts the same as your 270-yard drive. Despite its simplicity, it’s easy to miss. Many golfers overthink this shot and fail to commit. I’ll share three tips to help you master your four-foot putts, potentially saving you one or two strokes per round.

Aim First – Then Set Your Feet In

Aim is the most important part of a four foot putt.

If your speed is just a little off, you’ll still have a chance of the ball rolling into the hole or the back edge catching it before it runs away from you.

However, with only four feet to work with, you’ll never make the putt if your aim is wrong. You have to aim these correctly.

There are different schools of thought about how much break to play and whether you should just go straight for the cup. When you are dealing with a severe break, you may need to aim outside the cup. Most of the time, it’s best to keep your aim inside the cup.

Forum Member Review: TPT Golf Shafts

Who is TPT Golf?

TPT’s parent company, NTPT, is more than just a golf company. The Swiss-based company was not initially associated with the golfing world. With a background in making fine watches as well as marine, aerospace, motorsports and aeronautical parts, they transferred that knowledge and experience to the golfing world.

TPT (Thin Ply Technology) has a fully integrated process for making their golf shafts, starting with their resin formulation and extending to the end result of shaft manufacturing. By maintaining control throughout the entire process and using automated processes, TPT shafts offer “no fiber off-axing, no parasitic bending during swings, and tight dispersion” by using continuous winding with “one start, one stop.”

TPT recently partnered with L.A.B. Golf to make specialized putter shafts, resulting in two wins on the PGA Tour and one on the Korn Ferry Tour.

We selected four testers to be fitted for, test and review the TPT Power and Nitro Series shafts which include driver, fairways and hybrids. TPT’s slogan for this line is “three shafts, one feel,” claiming that each shaft will deliver a consistent feel and allow the user to swing each shaft the same way. Would the science behind these shafts hold up to the claims made?

Tester Plans and Expectations

Our selected testers were excited and eager to get things underway in testing the Power Series shafts. Plans and expectations varied slightly between them.
