The two most common mistakes I see golfers battle with when chipping are poor pace; the club head travels in a jerky fashion or at speeds that are often too fast for the requirements of the shot and they struggle to get the club to bottom out in the correct location relative to the ball. Pace and low point! Watch the video below and then let’s check in on some of the key points…
Here are a few points to take away:
Pace
Feel an even, ‘tick, tock” type pace as you swing the club back and forth
A good practice is to hit a few simple chip shots with a 7 iron. This will give you an excellent sense of what the pace should feel like

The direct-to-consumer (DTC) market has experienced an explosion of new brands in recent years, offering golfers a plethora of choices.
One such brand that caught the attention of our Forum members, although not featured in our primary golf ball test of 2023, is ODIN Golf. Who is ODIN Golf and what, if anything, sets them apart in the competitive DTC golf ball market?
According to ODIN Golf, their mission is to make golf more accessible, affordable and streamlined for everyday golfers.
ODIN Golf aims to deliver a golf ball experience equal to or better than traditional brands without breaking the bank. An additional enticing feature is their unique cashback program, offering a 20-percent return on every dozen purchased (applied to a future purchase), providing golfers with savings on subsequent ODIN orders.
Emphasizing their commitment to the everyday golfer, they distance themselves from the allure of tour pros, saying, “we’re not excited about the pros. We’re excited about you!” They aim for their community to directly benefit from and engage in the value they bring as a company, extending beyond merely reloading on more golf balls.
Another struggle on the closing stretch left Tiger Woods 10 shots behind co-leaders Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth at the Hero World Challenge.
Tiger Woods, who joined the PGA Tour's policy board in August, says "hypothetically," he would be surprised if rumors of several big-name players, including Jon Rahm, signing with LIV Golf prove to be true.
L.A.B. Golf putters might have the most notable uptick in the golf industry recently. The results speak for themselves:
Lucas Glover – 2009 U.S. Open champion who became a footnote on the PGA TOUR and to golf fans. Resurrected his career this year with wins in back-to-back weeks.Camilo Villegas – A previous winner on the PGA TOUR who snapped a nine-year slump to finally break through at this year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship.Adam Scott – A Masters champion, a former world No. 1-ranked player, but the anchoring ban in 2016 certainly impacted him. The future looks promising though as he placed in the top 10 four times in 2023. In each of those finishes, he had a +1> strokes gained for putting. What do these three have in common? L.A.B Golf putters.
There is a clear performance difference between pros and amateurs. However, if there is a single golf club that can help improve any golfer’s performance, the argument can be made – it is generally the putter.
More and more golfers are using L.A.B. Golf putters. Even some of our staff members have one in their golf bag—Chris Nickel, Connor Lindeman, Jamie Danbrook and me, Phillip Bishop.
Why? We’ve seen the performance benefits personally and they reflect the results of L.A.B. Golf putters in our Most Wanted Mallet Putter Test. The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Max placed second overall in our 2023 test.
