2022 Masters App Is Live And Ready To Be Updated

As each year goes by I fear the true sporting spirit of match play is less and less in evidence. We find a growing disposition for play to concentrate on the figures that are registered at a hole rather than on the question of whether the hole is lost or won in a purely friendly match. TOM SIMPSON

It’s back only sporting minor updates in the form of a new interactive Featured Group feed. Also, the Masters Radio is listed and may have been last year, too (if anyone recalls let me know). This would mean it’s not exclusive to SiriusXM and that you can get that broadcast via phone while driving or sitting on the beach.

Here is the link to update or download the 2022 edition.

2022 Premium Glove Buyer’s Guide

We all watch the PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour on TV each week. Just about every pro wears a glove, right? But are they playing a premium or a performance glove? Did you even know there was a difference?

Let us break it down for you.

The best premium golf glove is usually constructed out of one piece of leather, normally cabretta or AAA cabretta. It’s basically the softest leather on the market.

A performance glove is typically constructed of two or more materials like cabretta and synthetic leather with some Lycra added for better flexibility. Performance gloves tend to be more durable.

Quadriltateral: Major(s) News And Notes, March 24, 2022

McNealy soars, Bryson struggles at Match Play

Maverick McNealy bested Joaquin Niemann 8 and 6 at the Match Play, joining Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler and John Rahm as notable Day 1 winners. Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau weren't as fortunate, losing and halving their respective matches.

Take a Putting Lesson from Cameron Smith

Cameron Smith may have set a record for 1 putt greens during 4 rounds of championship golf at The Players this year. His 42 single putt greens over the 72 holes played is an amazing record. On his final 9 holes he had 8, single putt greens. We should all try to learn from Cameron’s amazing putting technique.

Cameron uses a unique Scotty Cameron putter but you really don’t need that putter to make more putts. Every putter in the world can sink every putt. Golfers only needs to choose the correct amount of swing, on the correct target line and impact on the center of your balanced putter face to impart a straight putt with a forward roll (minimizing any bounce).

Cameron takes a careful read of the slope and distance by walking around his putting line and looking from above and below the hole. He does not use a consistent process where he uses a line on his ball to line up his shot. But he often just uses the Titlist logo to line up the direction that he wants to hit.
1/ He chooses a target point that he wants to hit on his putting line so that the ball will break and run down to the hole.
2/ He takes a few practice swings to feel the swing required to reach and pass the hole.
3/ He move forward to his ball and looks from his ball to his target point 1, 2 or 3 times.
4/ He takes a final long stare at the distance to the hole and this is where the MAGIC STARTS: In one continuous sequence, his eyes trace the line from the hole up to his target point and then back to his ball where his SHOULDERS swing his putter back and through his ball EXACTLY ALONG HIS TARGET LINE.

Cameron Smith visually traces his eyes back from the hole to his target point and then back to his ball where his shoulders swing his putter back and straight up his target line (in one continuous sequence).

During the back-swing and forward-swing with his putter, his head and eyes stay focused on his ball. He holds the focus of his eyes directly on the point where his ball is resting for a fraction of a second after the putter impact is completed. He must visualize swinging his putter directly up his target line.

Most golfers focus on their ball for many seconds before they swing. Cameron is not making that pause. He transfers his eye line to his putter back-swing line in one continuous motion without watching his putter back-swing. You can practice this motion with GOLFSTR+. It will lock your leading wrist flat so that all of your putting power comes from the rocking of your shoulders without any wrist action. Avoiding movement in the small muscles of your hands eliminates any tremor or shaking action as you putter makes it pendulum swing. Buy one today at www.GOLFSTR.com

DeChambeau Says Hand Injury Happened Playing Table Tennis In Saudi Arabia

Match play, you see, is much more of a joust. It calls for a doughty, resourceful competitor, the sort of fellow who is not ruffled by his opponent’s fireworks and is able to set off a few of his own when it counts. HERBERT WARREN WIND

History’s Mysteries: The PING Anser

Let’s fire up the Wayback Machine, fellow GolfSpies. It’s time for another edition of History’s Mysteries—MyGolfSpy’s look at the patchwork quilt that is our game’s past.

In golf history, there are three, maybe four, iconic putters. For the real historian, there’s Calamity Jane, the hickory-shafted wand Bobby Jones used to rule the 1920s. Then there’s the Wilson 8802 and Jack’s legendary MacGregor ZT-Response.

But I’m willing to bet all of Warren Buffett’s money and a sizable portion of my own that nearly everyone reading this article has played this club, or one just like it, at some point in their golfing career.

I’m talking, of course, about the PING Anser.

History’s Mysteries: The PING Anser

If Karsten Solheim isn’t on your Mount Rushmore of The Most Influential People in Golf History, then I suggest you reevaluate your list. To paraphrase Connor T. Lewis of The Society of Golf Historians, if you’re playing a modern golf club, even if it doesn’t say PING on it, you’re playing some PING technology.

Oakland Hills lands U.S. Open in 2034 and 2051

Oakland Hills Country Club has landed the U.S. Open in 2034 and 2051 just weeks after a devastating fire destroyed its century-old clubhouse.

Oakland Hills Adds 2034, 2051 U.S. Open's And Four More Amateur Championships

The USGA staved off, well, no one by securing Oakland Hills for future majors and top amateur events. The latest announcement adds to previously announced U.S. Women’s Opens for the fabled South Course.

For Immediate Release for championships not immediately happening:

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (March 22, 2022) – Historic Oakland Hills Country Club, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has been selected as the host site for the 2034 and 2051 U.S. Open Championships as well as four additional prestigious USGA amateur championships, starting in 2024.

“We could not be happier to bring six additional championships to such an iconic venue as Oakland Hills,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “Since its first U.S. Open in 1924, Oakland Hills has provided a supreme test for the game’s very best, and it will continue to do so for professionals and amateurs alike in the coming years.”

Adding to the two U.S. Opens and the two U.S. Women’s Opens in 2031 and 2042 announced in January, Oakland Hills’ South Course will host the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur, 2029 U.S. Women’s Amateur, 2038 U.S. Girls’ Junior and 2047 U.S. Amateur. The club is set to host a total of eight USGA championships between 2024 and 2051. It will become the fifth club to have hosted a U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur, with Pebble Beach set to join those ranks when it hosts the U.S. Women’s Open in 2023.

PING PLD Custom: Fit and Build Like a Pro

A couple of weeks ago, PING unveiled their 2022 Putting Lab Design (PLD) putter line. The new PLD putter line is a solid retail offering. Most days, it would be all the news. That day, PING had another bold announcement. Bold like the yellow-and-black PLD-branded bags the PING pros featured at The Players Championship. That day, PING one-upped themselves with the announcement of the new PLD Custom Putter Program.
