Today, we get our first look at Bettinardi’s Spring Classic BB14 limited run putter. Naturally, the timing of this release has something to do with the upcoming “first major” next week. This is the time of year when the golf industry hits its Masters-inspired gear stride. What makes the Bettinardi annual releases a little different is that there is usually a nugget of Bettinardi Masters play history incorporated into the design.
For the collector, this season’s Spring Classic BB14 hits all of the limited-edition marks. It has the unique Masters-inspired aesthetics and a head that is not available as a retail offering. Sprinkle in some of that Bettinardi flavor and you have the markings of a classic limited offering.

MyGolfSpy Ball Lab is where we quantify the quality and consistency of the golf balls on the market to help you find the best ball for your money. Today, we’re taking a look at the Noodle Long and Soft. An overview of the equipment we use can be found here. To learn more about our test process, how we define “bad” balls and our True Price metric, check out our About MyGolfSpy Ball Lab page.
The MaxFli TaylorMade Noodle Long and Soft is one of the most requested balls for Ball Lab. You’re all weird … a good number of you anyway. I get it. The Noodle is an affordable product with a fun name. It’s one of few beloved products where, even if deep down we know it’s not one of the best balls on the market, we don’t care.
The Noodz is like Gary McCord’s mustache. It’s familiar and, whether it’s ultimately a good idea or not, there’s still something almost comforting about it.
About the Noodle Long and Soft
As you may or may not know, The Noodle brand once fell under the Maxfli umbrella. When the Maxfli name was sold to DICK’S Sporting Goods, TaylorMade kept the Noodz (The Noodle brand) for themselves. The TaylorMade Noodle Long and Soft is a two-piece, Surlyn-covered ball with 342 dimples.

TaylorMade Golf is releasing a limited-edition Spider putter to commemorate Dustin Johnson’s 2020 Masters win.The putter is built to DJ’s specs and features Augusta-inspired graphics. The putter has a MSRP of $499.99 and is available for preorder at TaylorMade online and at retailers today.
This April, TaylorMade will be releasing a special-edition Itsy Bitsy Spider putter to commemorate Dustin Johnson’s 2020 Masters victory. This Masters spider will be built to DJ’s play specs and feature custom aesthetics reflecting his first win at Augusta National.
“Growing up in South Carolina, winning in Augusta was my dream. When that dream finally came true last fall, I was speechless. The win was special for many reasons, as is the putter that helped me get the job done.”
-Dustin Johnson
We all know this is the time the golf market becomes flooded with products inspired by the “first major” of the year in men’s golf. Want an entire outfit decorated with pimento and cheese images? No doubt some company out there wants to make that happen for you. There are just so many goofy Masters products pursuing patrons’ paychecks. This is not one of them.
To me, this commemorative putter seems more legit than some other yellow and green golf swag as it helped DJ earn the bragging rights that come with the green jacket of a Masters champion. DJ put on a putting clinic that week with his impressive number of one-putts and by leading the field in strokes gained putting from six to nine feet (+.902).

The new tournament, which does not yet have a name, will take place June 10-13 at the Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina. It will replace the RBC Canadian Open, which was canceled because of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, 82 of the best amateurs in the world will compete in the 54-hole tournament for the prestigious title at the exclusive golf club.

Faces of the NCGA: The Power of a ‘Hello’
March 30, 2021
By Pat Zimmerman
At a recent WGANC Open Day at Butte Creek Country Club, all golfers were out on the course. I was sitting on their patio having a cup of coffee and watching the progress on Golf Genius.
A very nice, older lady walk by and I said, “Good morning”. The woman, an NCGA member named Marilyn Brownfield, proceeded to stop for a chat and told me stories of her 80 something years. Her stories were very interesting and entertaining. She had volunteered to spot on a hole on the back nine for the tournament. After about an hour and a half of visiting, Marilyn bid me farewell and went out to her volunteer position.

The new Tommy Armour Impact 2021 line includes revised No. 1 and No. 3 models and a new No. 2 wide. All putters feature new contrasting visuals and a new softer insert.Putters are available now with an MSRP of $149.99.
In 2021, Tommy Armour is updating its Impact putter line. In most situations, a big box sporting goods retailer updating a house putter line would not be a big deal. However, the original Tommy Armour Impact putter line proved to be anything but a dismissible batch of budget putters.
Sure, the “budget” moniker was appropriate as the original Impact line had a MSRP of $99 with coupon codes potentially dropping that further. Cheap is nice but cheap and effective is fantastic for potential putter purchasers.
When the Tommy Armour Impact No. 3 won the Most Wanted Mallet title in 2018, we all took notice. When it did it again in 2019, we knew this putter was special. Since then, the Impact No. 3 has generated a bit of a cult-like following. Those who game the No. 3 take great pleasure in knowing that their $99 putter crushes the competition at the cash register and on the course.
Ultimately, that is why the 2021 Impact update is a big deal. Now the question becomes: Can Tommy Armour keep the magic of the No. 3 intact and perhaps even imbue the No. 3’s magic into the other models?
Let’s take a look at the new features and models in the 2021 line.

June's U.S. Open at Torrey Pines will have far fewer spectators, but there has been no decision made yet on how many fans, if any, will be allowed to attend.
Dustin Johnson has withdrawn from this week's Valero Texas Open, saying in a statement that he instead will use the week before the Masters to work on his game at home ahead of his defense at Augusta National.

You have got to try this simple, yet highly effective, exercise! Whilst it’s not as easy as it might appear it can be done fairly quickly and at home. This valuable little nugget was shared by my friend and Golf Fanatics expert contributor, Mike Carroll. It will help with mobility, strength and mechanics. Watch….
Mobility
As you work through each swing strive to go back a touch further than you did on the previous swing. I’ve done this for a week now and can feel the difference already.
Strength
As much as we might not be willing to admit it, strength makes a substantial difference in the distance that we hit the golf ball. If you start doing this with a light weight try to move up in weight as the weeks progress. I’m currently using an 8 pound medicine ball.
Report: No Spectators at U.S. Women’s Open at The Olympic Club
March 29, 2021
There will be no fans allowed on-site at the Olympic Club in San Francisco for the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open, as first reported by San Francisco Chronicle golf writer and NCGA Golf Magazine contributor Ron Kroichick.
The championship, the first women’s major to be held at The Olympic Club, is scheduled for June 3-6.
According to the Chronicle, state and local public health officials made the decision in coordination with the United States Golf Association and LPGA and that only a limited number of Olympic Club members will be permitted on-site during the event.
The 2020 U.S. Women’s Open was postponed from last June to December and was played in Houston, also without fans.
A few months ago, we posted the 2020 edition of our One Word Survey. This is now the third time we’ve played our favorite word association game.
If you don’t recall or are just stumbling onto this for the first time, the idea is for you to choose the golf equipment brand you most associate with each of the words we presented. Figuring some of you might have other brands in mind or that a given adjective wasn’t applicable to any brand, we also gave you a none of the above option. For the sake of consistency, we left the survey largely unchanged from the original. However, we did add a couple of new words to reflect recent industry trends.
We understand that the one-word approach doesn’t leave much room for nuance but that’s part of what makes this exercise so interesting. We don’t know what your second choice might have been; we only know the frequency at which each brand was chosen.
By looking at year-over-year changes, we can get a sense of how the market is shifting and how your perceptions of brands may be shifting with it. When big brands experience big shifts, it can be telling.
It’s also notable when a smaller brand moves the needle for a given word. We expect market-leading brands will be selected more often for both positive and negative words. Those are the names golfers know. They’re the brands golfers buy most often. So, when a challenger brand factors significantly in the results, it’s worth pointing out.
