Stretching before playing golf is important to improve flexibility, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance your performance on the course. A good stretching routine should target the muscles most used during a golf swing, including those in the shoulders, back, hips, and legs. Here are some stretches you can do before a round of golf:
Shoulder Stretch: Hold your golf club in front of you with a wide grip. Gently lift the club above your head and behind your back, stretching your shoulders. Hold for 15-30 seconds.
Trunk Rotations: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms crossed over your chest. Rotate your torso to the right and then to the left, holding each side for a few seconds. This helps warm up your core muscles.
Side Bends: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands on your hips. Bend your torso to one side, hold for a few seconds, then bend to the other side. This stretch targets your obliques.
Hamstring Stretch: Extend one leg out in front of you with your toe pointed up. Bend the opposite knee, lean forward from your hips, and reach towards your toe. Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs.
