Designer shoes are often seen as a status symbol of sorts. Why? Products labeled as “designer” connote an essence of elegance and luxury. In short, if you’re wearing designer ANYTHING, it means you’re somebody (or you like to think you’re somebody)

Forget the shoes, though. This is a golf site, after all. I’m here to answer the question I know you’ve been asking (okay, not really.) What about a designer driver? Is there even such a thing?

There is now. Introducing the TaylorMade Qi10 and Qi10 Max Designer Series Drivers. Both the Qi10 and Qi10 Max Drivers have been given a slight cosmetic tweak in the name of creativity.

Nothing gets golfers going like a blackout color scheme. TaylorMade has been known to use bright colors at times (see Stealth, Sim, etc) but they almost always offer a blacked-out variant as an option for those that want something a little more … well … stealthy.

I must say, the Black Out Qi10 Designer Series Driver is about a sexy as a driver can be. But, the Ruby Red variant is also very appealing to the eye. Basically, what I’m saying is that if had either of these beauties (yes, they’re offered in RH and LH), I wouldn’t complain.

The Testing Opportunity

In 2023 COBRA returned with their 50th Anniversary Forum Member Review Challenge.

COBRA celebrated their 50th anniversary in the golf industry with the launch of their AEROJET line. With the tagline “Faster by Design”. COBRA says it engineered Aerojet to enable new levels of speed through an aerodynamic and bold design.

What Was Tested

Six Forum members were given the opportunity to test and keep a full bag of COBRA products. All of tested the AEROJET woods. Two were selected for the KING TOUR muscle-back/cavity-back, Forged Tec/Tec X and AEROJET iron lines. All finished off by testing wedges and their choice of putter. Testers were also able to select the Ultralight Pro cart or stand bag.

The Challenges

As three-man teams, the testers competed in weekly challenges. Each challenge focused on a particular part of the bag. Woods and Wedges, Putt-Putt King, Irons Only and a Four-Club Challenge. Check out the thread HERE to find out who ended up as the COBRA Challenge Champions!

Just months after getting his PGA Tour card back, Grayson Murray has already found the winner’s circle. 

Murray, a 30-year-old journeyman from Raleigh, N.C., won early in his tour career back at the 2017 Barbasol Championship but saw his performance crater in the years that followed. He regained confidence in 2023 with two victories on the Korn Ferry Tour, securing full PGA Tour membership for 2024. 

It didn’t take long for him to find success in 2024. Murray won the Sony Open yesterday in a three-man playoff over Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An. The victory puts him up to No. 46 in the Official World Golf Ranking, the best mark of his career. Murray is now exempt into the Masters, PGA Championship and all the remaining signature events on tour for the rest of the season.

His victory earned him a considerable paycheck ... but another accolade could be his ticket into the PGA Tour's signature events series.

The Cleveland Halo XL Full Face irons are the latest update to Cleveland’s best-selling sticks this side of wedges. Let’s start with the New Balance Heritage golf shoes. Billed as a shoe that blends modern performance with old-school aesthetic, the Heritage shoe is reminiscent of what’s considered by most to be the brand’s most popular shoe, the 997.

I know what you’re thinking: Haven’t we already seen a New Balance 997 golf shoe? Yes. However, that shoe was more of a lifestyle shoe than a performance golf shoe. The Heritage should fall somewhere in the middle. It strives for better performance without sacrificing that iconic New Balance look and feel.

Could 2024 be the year broken tees are mended? 

It’s starting to feel like it. 

Last June, the PGA Tour entered into a framework agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund that bankrolls LIV. There is no official partnership yet—and the initial Dec. 31 deadline has been pushed to April—but it feels likely the two sides will come together, especially after defending Masters champion Jon Rahm signed with LIV. 

Rahm’s signing was a firm indication that LIV will continue stockpiling players unless an agreement is reached. The PGA Tour remains vulnerable and likely needs the PIF to survive, but the PIF would also benefit greatly from joining forces. It would legitimize their struggling product and provide a seat at the table with the same corporate American businesses that consistently invest in the PGA Tour. 

After a lengthy soap opera that has left golf fans frustrated and then apathetic, olive branches are being extended and talk of a global tour—where the two leagues fold into one or somehow coexist peacefully—now is a topic of conversation.
