2022 WOMEN’S SPIKED SHOE BUYER’S GUIDE

“You cannot put the same shoe on every foot.” This quote from 42 BC still rings true.

Shoes have become the pinnacle of how we define and present our style on and off the course. For years, function and performance have been sacrificed at the cost of not looking “too young” or, conversely, playing in a more geriatric model at the ripe age of 25. Fortunately, manufacturers are beginning to understand that women also deserve reliable performance from their golf shoes.

So, no matter if you’re in contention for your state qualifier, enjoy a nine-hole league on Friday evenings or are just picking up the game, there is a shoe just for you.  Whatever your preference or needs, our Best Women’s Spiked Shoes Buyer’s Guide takes you through the best of each category!

Not a fan of spiked shoes? No worries. Check out our Best Women’s Spikeless Shoes of 2022.

Major(s) News & Notes May 26, 2022

…this was a man who, in the Paleolithic age of golf architecture, acquired a profound knowledge of the ancient courses but was not tied to any dogma that they were sacrosanct in the form that God had created them. ALISTAIR COOKE on C.B. Macdonald

/ Geoff Shackelford

A busy week winds down (maybe) with final PGA Championship items, pairing sheet stupidity, the U.S. Women's Open gets good news, a bunch of U.S. Open and Open qualifying news and much more.

It’s free Thursday’s at the Quad so everyone can enjoy. But of course, subscribing is free. And while we’re in the heart of major season, this is a year-round venture, as explained here.

Shadoff tops Ewing in LPGA Match-Play opener

Jodi Ewart Shadoff routed defending champion Ally Ewing 6 and 5 on Wednesday at Shadow Creek in the first round of group play in the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play.

NFL golfing QBs on The Match: Expect trash talk

Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will face off against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen in a 12-hole golf event on June 1; all four NFL quarterbacks participated in a media preview event Wednesday ahead of The Match.

Tips From the PGA Championship

Golfers love to play this game, but they also love to watch golf on TV to find nuggets of knowledge that they hope will improve their game.  The PGA Championship was fun to watch and gave a few great ideas for those sitting on the sidelines.

Every Round has it Ups and Downs

The PGA Championship was a real wake-up for golfers.  Don’t get frustrated when you play a great round of golf followed by a poor round of golf.  It may be caused by the wind or the phase of the moon, but your luck seems to change day to day.  Inconsistency for the pros seems to be the same as we experience as recreational players.  If you watched all 4 days of the PGA Championship you can appreciate the UPS and DOWNS experienced by McIlroy, Zalatoris (so close), Bubba Watson (fun while it lasted), Rahm (#1 was out of it), Spieth (hot and cold), Fowler (getting hotter), Pereira (double bogie on the 18th) and Justin Thomas (winning the Playoff from 7 back).

Never Say Die: Justin Thomas was 7 behind at the start of the final round and won in a 3 hole playoff.

Rory Practicing Shots to Take Off Back-SPIN

When you are making an approach shot to a green with a steep slope off the front, you CAN’T afford to hit shots with a lot of back-spin, especially at Southern Hills where many greens are setup with a drop-off on all sides.  On the practice range they highlighted Rory practicing by choking down about 4 inches on clubs and hitting balls back in his stance to eliminate backspin.

"A Week In The Life Stanford Women's Golf"

Millions of dollars annually are wasted in devastating the earth; in obstructing the flow of rainfall; in creating impossible conditions. PERRY MAXWELL

/ Geoff Shackelford

Led by the super-duo of Rose Zhang and Rachel Heck, the Stanford women take on Oregon in today’s NCAA Women’s final. Adam Woodward and Lance Ringler preview what should be a stellar all-Pac 12 match.

The Cardinal women are profiled and trailed at a recent even in a tremendous film by No Laying Up. It’s directed by D.J. Piehowski and edited by Matt Golden, and a tremendous piece of work!

National Golf Links To Host 2030 Curtis Cup

Adding to the already stellar lineup, National Golf Links follows its successful hosting of the 2013 Walker Cup with the 2030 Curtis Cup matches. Fantastic news for the women’s game.

For Immediate Release:

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (May 25, 2022) – National Golf Links of America, in Southampton, N.Y., has been named the host site of the 46th Curtis Cup Match, to be held June 7-9, 2030. This will be the third USGA championship conducted at National Golf Links, which has previously hosted the 1922 and 2013 Walker Cup Matches.

“We are thrilled to return to National Golf Links, one of America’s finest golf courses and a true cathedral of the game,” said Mark Hill, USGA managing director, Championships. “The club has been such an integral part of Walker Cup history, so for its leadership to offer to host a Curtis Cup speaks volumes about their commitment to the amateur and women’s game. We cannot wait to work with their leadership in the effort to stage another memorable Match.”

National Golf Links of America, which opened in 1909, was designed by renowned golf course architect Charles Blair Macdonald, who guided the course’s development over its first 30 years. Macdonald’s tenure included the inaugural Walker Cup Match in 1922. Led by playing captain William C. Fownes Jr. and with a side that included Bob Jones, Charles “Chick” Evans and Francis Ouimet, the United States won the first Match, 8-4. National Golf Links of America was the home club of George Herbert Walker, USGA president in 1920, when the event was conceived, and the man who donated the trophy. The Walker Cup Match returned to National Golf Links in 2013, when the USA Team defeated GB&I 17-9.

How to watch PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Challenge on ESPN+

ASICS GEL-ACE PRO M Standard Golf Shoes

ASICS GEL-ACE PRO M Standard Golf Shoes – Key Takeaways

Hideki Matsuyama’s shoe comes to North America.Lightweight spiked shoe with waterproof synthetic upperTwo colorways: white with black trim and black with pure silver trim$199.99. Available starting today.

The new ASICS GEL-ACE PRO M Standard golf shoe is, to put it kindly, a mouthful. It also represents several firsts for the ASICS-Srixon North American partnership.

The first first? It’s ASICS’ first PGA TOUR-validated shoe introduced to the North American market. Yep, these are Hideki’s shoes.

The second first: it’s the first product introduced under the new Dunlop Sports Americas umbrella. Dunlop Sports is the new North American subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries.

And the third first is that the ASICS GEL-ACE PRO M Standard is the first ASICS golf offering in North America that maybe-kinda-sorta could be considered a “traditional” style golf shoe. It’s no modified wing-tip, but it’s definitely not an athletic-style golf shoe, either.

And, not for nothing, it may very well be the best golf shoe ASICS has released in North America. Given ASICS’ middle-of-the-road performance in our Buyer’s Guides, that may sound like a left-handed compliment. But after two rounds, we can safely say this is a starting lineup-level piece of footwear.

Golf Ball Compression Guide

Where can I see golf ball compression numbers in one place?

That’s probably the most common question to come out of our work in the MyGolfSpy Ball Lab

For golfers looking for that sort of thing, we’ve built a compression chart that includes every ball we’ve measured to date. In the interest of providing even more information, we’ve also included the layer count, number of dimples and cover material.

Below the chart, you’ll find a golf ball compression FAQ of sorts. The goal is to tackle your compression questions while hopefully clearing up what really is an abundance of golf ball compression misinformation found elsewhere.

As always, if you have more questions, drop them into the comment section.

Shot Scope Case Study – Three-Putting Stats By Handicap

Putting – A Game of Its Own

Ever wondered why you’re three-putting more than usual? Could be a multitude of different factors. A shift in handicap, conidtions and even where in the world you’re playing.

I recently took a trip to Colorado for a close friend’s wedding. We had the bright idea to go golfing. For me, pure excitement. For the other two, a mixed bag of emotions. The groom has played before but still qualifies as a recreational golfer. The other guy, well … It was his first time.

Naturally, my inclination was that putting would be a struggle for both of them. For my beginner friend, that held true. He hit some awesome shots and I was extremely proud of him. However, putting was his ultimate downfall, as it is for most beginners or higher-handicap golfers.

As if golf isn’t already hard, putting is a game of its own. Over the years, Shot Scope has been collecting putter data from its users, all in an effort to help golfers improve.

Let’s take a look at some key putting metrics from Shot Scope’s database.
