MyGolfSpy Ball Lab is where we quantify the quality and consistency of golf balls. Today, we’re reviewing the 2023 PXG Xtreme . To learn more about our test process, click here.
Unless you’ve been living in a bubble or in an underground bunker, you’ve heard of Parsons Xtreme Golf (PXG). To augment their full line of golf equipment and apparel, PXG released its first golf ball model in 2023, the PXG Xtreme – “the one ball that does it all.” The Xtreme is available in white from PXG and other online retailers. Furthermore, for our military community and its supporters, PXG is offering the Xtreme printed with military service insignias for the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines.
PXG says the Xtreme was “engineered to increase speed and distance off the tee” and “designed to maximize spin and control for your approach shots and around the green with exceptional durability.” Under test conditions during our 2023 Golf Ball Test, the Xtreme was in the top 10 for ball speed in the fast, mid and slow driver swing speed category as well as overall distance in the fast and slow category of the same. As for spin, the Xtreme was frequently the highest-spinning ball in all the categories tested. The PXG Xtreme ball can be classified as a mid/high-launch, high-spin ball suitable for those golfers who struggle to generate enough launch and spin.
The PXG Xtreme is manufactured at the SM Parker factory in Vietnam.
The Xtreme has a three-piece construction with red, white, and blue core that PXG notes is in “honor of PXG’s American roots.” PXG also says the ball “has been designed with a soft urethane outer cover to maximize spin and control around the greens, combining this with the firm ionomer mantle layer and explosive polybutadiene core to increase speed and distance off the tee.” Of further note is the Xtreme’s unique 338-dimple pattern, PXG reported, is “engineered to deliver aerodynamic characteristics that maximize distance with the driver while producing a high trajectory with optimal spin with irons and wedges.” For those golfers that draw a line on the ball to help you aim, the PXG Xtreme has “reticle alignment aid” to help you line up and sink more putts, provided you do your part.
In today's edition of Play Smart, we look at a video that shows just how much spike marks on the green affect putts.

The adidas S2G. This new spikeless golf shoe aims to fill a gaping void in the golf shoe market with its budget-friendly price point.
Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. Do I have enough golf shoes? My wife seems to think so. I can’t seem to convince her that my job is real and that I do indeed have to go to the course to try out new shoes every week.
The theme of this review centers around perhaps the most compelling piece of the new adidas S2G: Price.
At just $110, this spikeless shoe hits a price point that’s about half that of the top players. With the adidas TOUR360 24 for $200 and the FootJoy Premiere Series ($200) and Pro/SLX Carbon ($220) also hitting the upper echelon of price, a $110 golf shoe is a rare sight.
The Greenwood Golf Minority Club League of Charlotte, North Carolina is doing a job that nearly everyone agrees needs to be done.
It’s just that while nearly everyone talks about it, precious few do anything about it.
That job is “growing the game.”
And the reason precious few do anything about it? Well, to paraphrase Thomas Edison, the job of growing the game comes dressed in overalls and looks like hard work.
Fortunately, Greenwood Golf CEO Chris Word is the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves guy who sees opportunities where most people see roadblocks.
When I was a kid learning the game, my coach once told me that I had to push for distance. He knew it would be a lifelong benefit for a junior golfer to learn. His key to more distance?
“Width.”
“Width” in the golf swing should allow for more power and improved ball striking. That’s the concept behind the Tour Feel.
I tested this unique training aid and brought it to the range to see what some other players thought. It’s not my favorite swing trainer but it can help some players.
The Tour Feel is designed to help golfers create more width in their swing. It is worn around the lead shoulder and wraps around the chest. It then connects to your lead thumb and allows you to swing and hit golf balls with the training aid in place.
The MyGolfSpy Forum introduced a special opportunity in 2023 with the Forum member review of Mizuno long-game clubs. These clubs included the Mizuno ST 230 driver, fairway, hybrid and Fli-Hi long-iron replacement clubs.
Mizuno’s new technology was the CORTECH Chamber which, as Mizuno stated, was their missing piece. The short version is that the CORTECH Chamber encases a dense stainless steel weight in elastomeric TPU, which takes stress from the clubface and aids in creating more energy transfer. It also moved weight to more ideal locations to help with feel and improved spin rates.
Testers were fitted and provided with the best combination of three clubs, with every tester receiving a driver. The fitting determined what would be the best combination of fairway, hybrid or Fli-Hi for the remaining two clubs.
The testers ranged in ability with handicaps ranging from 4 to 13 and varying swing speeds. The testers have different backgrounds, experiences and tendencies on the golf course to give a wide range of results to showcase how these golf clubs really perform.
Testers were generally very pleased and impressed with the clubs when they arrived. The sticking points were delays in getting the clubs and that the order/processing time took longer than most had hoped. Not a knock on the clubs themselves but it was noted in the reviews.

Players on the PGA Tour board negotiating with Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund have a meeting planned Monday with the Saudi leader backing rival LIV Golf.
Just like everyday life, when we play a round of golf, there is a lot of unpredictability. There are endless possibilities for what could happen, that we don’t have control over. But what we can control (and our success depends on it) is how well we can manage our response to what happens, so we get the best out of ourselves in every round.
This is why expectations don’t serve any purpose in golf. You can’t expect anything to happen. If you do, it will only lead to frustration. What you can expect is variability, so you may as well prepare for it and embrace it.
The variability we get in golf is a good thing. In fact, it’s part of what keeps us coming back. If every round was 100% predictable, the game would be nowhere near as fun.
Top players have learned how to be adaptable and become Masters of Variability. For this reason, they feel fully prepared for anything that could happen and they are more confident as a result.
That said, you don’t want to spend time worrying about what could happen. It’s better to allocate time to thinking about the possible variables and how you will manage them (and practice them), so you can be fully present during each phase of the round. Predicting variability and developing your plan to manage it should be an ongoing part of your “process”.
