Testers Wanted: Maxfli Tour Golf ball with MAX ALIGN Technology

Maxfli Tour Golf Ball Member Testing

We are once again offering the Maxfli Tour series golf balls for member testing. However, this time around, there is a slight twist: Maxfli has added a new feature to this series.

First, let’s recap the Maxfli Tour X golf ball and its standout performance in the 2023 MyGolfSpy Ball Test.

Both the Maxfli Tour and Maxfli Tour X performed really well in testing. But the Maxfli Tour X was recognized for producing a higher ball flight for high-speed golfers while also cracking the top-10 fastest balls for all speed categories and topping the low swing speed driver chart.

Maxfli also earned best direct-to-consumer ball and best DTC brand quality in our recent Golf Ball Quality Awards of 2023.

Despite that high praise and results, the MyGolfSpy Ball Lab results came back varied, with previous versions performing better. The Maxfli Tour series scored 89, 82 and 73 out of 100.

JUST DROPPED: New Air Jordan 1 Low G Colorway

Fresh of the heels of the more muted “gum” Jordan 1 Low G, Jordan is blessing us golfers with yet another stellar colorway of its most popular golf shoe.

This Jordan 1 Low G comes complete with a Varsity Red spikeless outsole and a navy swoosh. A clean white toe box and tongue complete the patriotic package.

jQuery( document ).ready( function( $ ) { var slides = $( '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5 .mgs-gallery-images .mgs-gallery-image' ).length; if ( slides 6 ) { slides = 6; } $( '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5 .mgs-gallery-images' ).slick( { slidesToShow: 1, slidesToScroll: 1, fade: true, prevArrow: '', nextArrow: '', asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5 .mgs-gallery-thumbs', swipe: false, mobileFirst: true, } ); $( '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5 .mgs-gallery-thumbs' ).slick( { slidesToShow: ( slides - 1 ), //less than number of slides, so it always shows infinite scroll (bugfix) slidesToScroll: 1, arrows: false, asNavFor: '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5 .mgs-gallery-images', centerMode: true, focusOnSelect: true, infinite: true, mobileFirst: true, responsive: [ { breakpoint: 1023, settings: { slidesToShow: 3, }, }, { breakpoint: 600, settings: { slidesToShow: 1, }, }, ], } ); $( '#mgs_gallery_65cfcff33dca5' ).magnificPopup( { delegate: '.mgs-gallery-trigger', type: 'image', gallery: { enabled: true, arrowMarkup: '', }, } ); } );

This limited colorway features the same great design of the OG Air Jordan 1. That means you get an encapsulated AIR unit in the heel and a full cup sole to keep you stable and low to the ground.

Whether you’re a range rat looking for some new kicks or just dig the Jordan vibes, this one is bound to be a hit. As an avid fan of this silhouette, I’m convinced that everyone should have a pair in their closet. This new USA-themed colorway is a great place to start.

LIV TV Ratings, Search for Second Broadcast Partner Remain Stagnant

Despite the recent additions of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, LIV Golf is still struggling to attract viewers.

Last Saturday, the final round of LIV Las Vegas drew 297,000 viewers on the CW. The telecast finished 51st for all sports programs that day, on par with the Golf Central pregame show in advance of PGA Tour coverage.

The PGA Tour audience for the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open was nearly six times the size, coming in at 1.7 million viewers and ranking No. 3 in sports programming for the day. And those were actually the worst third-round ratings for the event in more than a decade, coming in 32 percent lower than the previous year (2.54M).

Two weeks ago, LIV’s Mayakoba tournament got a significant break when the final round of the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am wasn’t played due to weather. LIV produced a record 432,000 viewers—but a CBS Sunday re-air of the third round from Pebble Beach brought in three times that audience.

Even when factoring in the inherent advantage of the PGA Tour being on network television, it is pretty clear that the audience is resonating more with the legacy product.

Ball Lab: Seed SD-01 – 3rd Generation

MyGolfSpy Ball Lab is where we quantify the quality and consistency of golf balls. Today, we’re reviewing the 2023 Seed SD-01. To learn more about our test process, click here.

About the Seed SD-01

The SD-01, the first ball Seed designed, now is on its third iteration. This ball is available in white and yellow with a new orange version reportedly on the horizon later this month.

Founder Dean Klatt says they “don’t design for tour players” but rather the “focus is always on improving performance for normal golfers with normal swing speeds and launch conditions.” The SD-01 ball “tends to fit the widest array of abilities” and is their top selling ball, he says.

During our 2023 Golf Ball Test, we noted the Seed SD-01 ball was as a high-launch, high-spin ball. This may a be a consideration for you low-launch, low-spin golfers looking for a little help from your equipment.

The Seed SD-01 is manufactured at Foremost in Taiwan where the Maxfli Tour Series, Wilson urethane and VICE urethane (excluding the VICE Pro Zero) balls are produced.

Change My Mind: These Sunglasses Are the Future of Golf Instruction

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. These tech-packed sunglasses feature onboard speakers and a FPV camera for capturing video and photos. They also integrate seamlessly with Meta AI to answer questions, take phone calls and send text messages.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. Outside of golf, tech is my favorite hobby. Just ask my wife how many different phones I’ve had in the last two years. When I see something cool in the tech world, I gravitate towards it.

Wait … What’s the Application to Golf?

You’re probably wondering why the heck I’d review smart sunglasses. Just hear me out.

What if I told you Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses could be the future of online golf coaching?

Our Favorite Side Games

There are not many things better than a Saturday afternoon 18 with your buddies on a perfect summer day. Everyone is on a heater, music is playing and the vibes are feeling right—but it still feels like something is missing … Enter our favorite side golf gambling games.

Whether it is adding stroke-play or match-play format, simple side bets, skins or specific games (which we will feature here), there is no shortage of ways to add some extra incentive to your round. These popular games offer options for groups of as few as two golfers to a foursome and beyond. Whether you’re up for a monetary wager or random challenges, give these games a try the next time you’re on the course to raise the stakes! Besides, who doesn’t enjoy a little extra pocket cash taken off their friends?

Games for Foursomes

Let’s kick things off with a foursome game that is a favorite of mine.

Vegas (also known as Las Vegas)

Vegas is a betting game typically played for $1 per point. The key designation with Vegas is that scores are put together, not added together. The high score from the hole is put behind the low score for each twosome.  For example, Player A and B comprise Team One, competing against Player C and D. Player A shoots a 4 and player B shoots a 3, making a team score of 34. Players C and D score a 5 and a 4, respectively, for a total of 45. At $1 per point, Team Two now owes Team One $11. You can play a full 18-hole match with your set teams or switch it up at the turn and reset the match to $0 and start again.

Options/Exceptions

It is important to note that there are some exceptions to scoring when playing Vegas. If a player scores a 10 or higher on any given hole, the higher number goes first. This allows for a safeguard to be put into place to keep points, and money exchanged, from getting out of hand (e.g., Player A shoots a 10 and Player B shoots a 3, the score is recorded as 103 instead of 310).
